I hate to say it but I want to take the risk on Beasley.  After seeing his pathetic performance in this year's playoffs in person, I am convinced he still has the talent to be a more explosive but lower IQ Hedo Turkoglu [the 2009 version].  He matches perfectly with Sheed's contract and if Doc and Danny think he can get his act together, will give us a go to scorer off the bench [he would be absolutely one of the league's best bench scorers] and great rebounding which proved to be a major need for us.  If he comes through he can be a major franchise centerpiece.  Not to mention he went to high school in western Mass, so he probably would like to live in Boston.  The best part is that he has a team option next year, so if it is a disaster we can let him go and use the mid-level to replace him next year.  The one major downside would be that it would facilitate the creation of the SuperHeat, but I think Danny believes in us enough to do it anyway.

I'm pretty sure this topic has been posted everyday since Sheed's retirement became a possibility, lol... But I'm inclined to agree that I'd love to have Bease in Green.

Ehh. Wouldn't do it myself but also wouldn't hate Danny for gambling with a former #2 overall pick. I would try to get some picks since Beasley's value is rock bottom right now.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Beasley could be a solid player as long as you don't expect him to be who he isn't. He's not a #2 guy to Wade, and probably not a #3. But you bring him off the bench and let him work hard for 18-20 minutes a game and you may have something...

That's the exact role I see for him on this team.  Think of him as a larger Tony Allen [minus the sometimes brilliant D].  Great hustle plays, nice baskets when the second unit cant get an offensive flow going, and some bonehead fouls.  He is the only available mid-level player that has high upside [JJ has good upside but not nearly as high as Beasley, but I love JJ].

Apologies for starting this new thread, I couldn't find another one.

No doubt Beasley would be a great bench scorer, but would he accept that role? I don't think so. His character issues and baggage are too much to take on.

We do want Doc to continue to coach our team. Sheed aged him 10 years, then we added Nate. Re-signing Nate is enough strain on Doc. He doesn't need a young guy that thinks he ought to be a starter and someone that could become a cancer in the locker room.

I disagree. I think the pressures of expectations are what brought out his character issues. I think it would be a big relief for him to come off the bench and not carry the heavy burden of being a #2 option
