I think this kind of sums it all up for me.   I became a die hard fan of the C's as a child in the late 80's just on the heels of their last Championship in '86.  I can't say that I was coherent enough to have been a fan when they were at their most dominant and won that last Championship.  I spent more than 20 years watching really bad teams take the floor, albeit with some competitively mediocre  teams sprinkled in here and there, play their way through 82 games a year.  We finally got back to the promise land and being a fan all those years when the team was losing made it worth it.  Paul Pierce, probably the most iconic Celtic of my generation receives the Championship MVP trophy.  That was bliss for me...
