There's been a lot of talk, about finding a big man, and the names Shaq, Brad Miller, Ben Wallace, trading for a big, and other scenario's....and all of those are credible and viable options worth looking into.
but there is one guy, whose name hasn't been mentioned, but is a free agent: Steven Hunter
What about Steven Hunter?
He doesn't have the name power of a Shaq, Brad Miller, or Big Ben, but at this point in all of there careers,is STeven Hunter really that far behind them?
The centers in this years free agency pool, are few and far between, and with the slim pickings, I think Steven Hunter is someone Danny needs to take into serious consideration.
I mean in this years FA pool, how many centers are out there? not many...on top of that of those 'not many' how many are under the age of 30?
Steven Hunter is athletic, 28, has played for Doc in Orlando, and is a free agent.
below is a highlight clip of him from youtube, for those not familiar with him:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJIg-9VXHW4Now this video, I know what your saying, "Anybody can put together a few clips of highlights together and make them selves look like a future HOF'er".....my answer to that: TRUE
But.....look at the video as if you were a scout, and not as a spectator.
As a scout for the Celtics, I think you look at the fact that you need a Big. Steven Hunter is a legit 7foot.
As a scout for the Celtics, I think you look for someone who is athletic, since you have an aging KG, earthbound Baby, and Shreded knee - earthbound also Kendrick Perkins...steven Hunter in this clip displays multiple things such as:
Ability to go straight up without gathering or dribbling first
(unlike perk)
Ability to finish at the basket&above the rim with 1 or 2 hands
(unlike baby)
Ability to grab the basketball, without fumbling it
(unlike Shelden)
Ablility to move around in the paint, near basket, adjusting to penetration.(moving in correaltion with the ball to provide spacing)
Ability to hit mid-range jumper occasionally
IF it were up to me, I would pursue Steven Hunter first, because he would not be a high profile name guy with a reputation (earned reputation, not a slight) like a Shaq, Brad Miller, or Big Ben, whom you might have to pay a certain amount based off reputation. You could sign Hunter for cheaper presumably, and get just as much if not more production out of him, than you would the other 34+ Centers.
(long winded, I know, I'm sorry)
What's your take?
