OK so PP is opting out. I see this as a positive because at least now we can go either way as an organization....before this, we were forced to sort of make it work with what we have, with little flexibility. Now we can also go full speed-ahead with a rebuild if need be. My question is, does anyone think it is possible that Pierce signs some kind of back-loaded contract with a player option the same year KG comes off the books? Does it make sense for him to sign for say 13-15 mil for a couple seasons, with a player option for another year or two at max-dollars?
That way we can bring in another piece (trade sheeds contract and cash for Rudy Gay, i.e.) and also get Ray Ray back at a decent price for a similar 2 year deal.....this way if it works out, everybody wins. We have a couple more title runs with the squad we have, and if it works out The Big 3 can all retire at the same time or continue playing together with the player options. It will definitely strangle-us a couple seasons down the road, but they will all be gone by the time Rondo is up for another contract extension.
If this can't happen, I would prefer to let Pierce walk, sign Rudy Gay, and then try to do the suggested Sheed for Beasley trade with the heat......I think moving forward with Rondo, Bradley, Gay, Beasley now looks a lot better then being frustrated all next season watching a shell of this years team try to do it all over again.
