BBalltim,

Not necessarily.

After a little research, here is a quick rundown of our draft picks from 2003 on compared to players still on the board.

2003
Celtics - Marcus Banks
Available - David West, Josh Howard, Keith Bogans, Kyle Korver

2004
Celtics - Delonte West, T. Allen
Available - Kevin Martin
Celtics - Justin Reed
Available - Trevor Ariza

2005
Celtics - Gerald Green
Available -David Lee, Brandon Bass, Andray Blatche
Celtics - Ryan Gomes, Orien Greene
Available - Marcin Gortat

2007
Celtics - Gabe Pruit
Available - Marc Gasol

And finally a recent one where swapping these players really hurts....

2008
Celtics - JR Giddens
Available - Deandre Jordan

D. Jordan, who in the last three games of the regular season had 10 pts 15 reb, 10 pts 13 reb, 12 pts 9 reb.  At 6-11, 250 pounds, sounds like somoeone who could've helped this year and next, particularly with Perk's injury.

2003: This was also the same Draft Danny made a move for Kendrick Perkins

2004: Both Tony Allen and Delonte West have been very productive NBA players. i can't fault Danny for missing on KMart when so many others did too, especially after Tony's Final Four run. I also can't fault Danny for missing on a high school project that slipped to the 2nd round.

Edit because I forgot:  HE DRAFTED AL FREAKING JEFFERSON IN THIS DRAFT!

2005: He took a chance on Gerald and missed, that happens to the best GMs. 25 teams passed on Gortat as well.

2007: Pruitt was a bad pick, but 18 teams passed on Marc Gasol twice. also, Danny drafted Big Baby also.

2008: We needed wing depth, there was no sign of KGs injury coming. Our big rotation was Perk, KG, Baby, Powe.

If anything, I think Danny's weakness is spotting foreign players.

Of course in hindsight, there will always be "coulda, shoulda, woulda".  But the whole point was to point out the players chosen, who were small for their projtected positions compared to those available with size and length.

Actually, none of the names you mentioned were small for their position. You pointed out all the wing players he drafted without pointing out the bigs. I find it hard to say the man who drafted Al Jeff, Perk and Baby is big man averse. I'd be willing to admit that he's not good at scouting European players, and I think that's fair unless Erden turns out to be a Turkish Marcin Gortat. ;)

One idea is that both doc and danny were both guards, they have a guard mentality, they like guards, maybe re live through them....look at the C's, was it a guard team, does doc love to try to run plays for centers or big men like pat riley does..? No on that one for sure, doc gave pat obryant no chance no way to play on this team, a real 7 footer with skills, they said he had no fire in him, who has fire playing garbage time forever, tommy h and i saw a lot of good things from the guy, in g-time, he even passed well...no one passes much in garbage time......why the heck would he pick more guards when we got beat by big men, we are losing two big men, and we needed more big men...? Perk isn't a swing man, but bbd is ....imagine him coming back next year...just as short...just as fat...thinking he did fine the way he was...like scal did for 5 years.....

I dont know where to start here. Is this serious?

it is serious, idea for you, don't start at all. agree or disagree, but don't call me out. i prob should put in a disclaimer, don't reply to my posts if you haven't ever really played serious basketball, like not "for fun", play to win! Then you might get a better idea where i am coming from. people who watch bball on tv, then want to tell everyone how it is.....come on...i am not your huckleberry..!

I did play serious high school basketball. Where did that come from? How can anyone take your post seriously when

A. You dont insert one period in the whole rant making it nearly impossible to read and..

B. You say that Patrick O'Bryant is a skilled 7 footer. They guy played himself out of the league. He has had plenty of opportunities being a high draft pick. The bottom line is that he is slower than slow. He stinks and three teams now, 2 of them lottery teams mind you, didnt give him any burn. Im pretty sure those three teams have better basketball minds than both you and I to make those decisions. Keep in mind it is YOU who only watched POB play on TV. You dont know how he performs in practice. You cant make the evaluations that real life NBA coaches can make because you only watch him on TV when he plaed 2 meaningless minutes in garbage time.

And dont worry about your disclaimer. I will never waste my time replying to one of your posts again.
