What happened to taking the best player available?

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Danny has surprised me in more good ways than bad over the last 6 years. But the next Danny Granger (James Anderson) was in our hands and we picked another tweener who can't shoot. Defense apparently is solid, but 95% of the current team can play defense--only 10% can score. And what about size? Hassan Whiteside at least has legit size. And why draft your only option at back up pg--not many guys that young picked that low can come in and spell Rondo for very long. I guess I'm just floored with the pick and need to let the kid play a game before I judge him. But am I alone here??

Yeah, I'm a little surprised by the title of the thread.  If Danny was drafting for need / position, we would have went big or grabbed a 3.  Instead, we got a combo / point, which is one of the few positions we're pretty set at (pending free agency.)

I think this will prove to be a turrible pick. We met zero needs with this pick and just kicked Nate out the door. I am very surprised with Sheed retiring, we did not make a move to acquire multiple picks and meet some needs. We don't have enough money to meet all our needs through FA unless we load up on vet. minimum guys.

James, Anderson, Alabi, Whiteside, Crawford, Jones were all on the table and we take a 19 year old combo that shoots 54 percent FT's. I just don't like or understand it.

While Bradley is better defensively, we REALLY need more offensive help. I was so excited when the 18th pick was announced and Anderson was still sitting there... Then, utter disappointment.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Bradley, I admit, but I thought Anderson could've given us a much needed offensive boost - and he could do that right away.

Just.... disappointed right now.

Met, it is what it is. The 19th pick in the NBA draft is not known for Impact guys who get alot of minutes.

ALso, Nate was never coming near the door.

He's to good to play 8 minutes a night, He was a good solider this year, but i predict that a full season of the "yea, listen I'll fit you in once every 3 days for 8 minutes, your the 9th-10th man on our bench" Role would have worn on him quickly.

  We should wait and see how these kids play against pros before we make judgments. I'm reminded of a thread about how Danny made the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise by picking Rondo and not Marcus Williams.
