if we need this junk to motivate us, we don't deserve the title. phil was only stating the obvious thing to motivate his team. a little stupid on his part for saying that right around the mic, but the only really coverage this will get is by the press, who will talk about it non-stop.

Phil can say anything he wants...but I hope they play that footage on loop in the Celtics' locker room in order to motivate the players.

If this is going to turn into a questioning phil as a coach (which i love). I have a few questions.
1) Why does he play Bynum thirty minutes when he can barely get up and down the floor, grabs one rebound and is at a minus 10 for the game?
2) Why not play Odom more who puts up 8 pts 8 boards, 2 steals and 2 assists and is at a plus 8 for the game? (only plus laker)
3) Why does shannon brown go from playing 15 minutes a game to 0 tonight? Why does Sasha do the opposite?
4) Why did they waste kobe's unbelievable third by not making any defensive adjustments? The celtics cant really adjust to him hitting circus shots. The lakers should be able to make adjustments to the celtics getting layups?

A lot of overreactions here.

Phil is an excellent coach. Sure, he's had superstars, but so did Red.

This team does not need bulletin board material with only one win to go for a title.

Phil is a condescending, arrogant tool.

sorry, I was at the game, what's the quote?

In a timeout huddle during the end of the game, he told his players that the Celtics knew how to lose. That they were the worst team in the NBA in terms of blowing leads in the fourth quarter and that they were doing that right now. ABC showed it coming out of a timeout.

He’s right. The only problem is that is the REGULAR SEASON. We’re a completely different team.

ah, makes sense, that's why coach's shouldn't be mic'd

I'd love to hear a mic on KG though, the censor's finger would get tired fast

i hate Jackson, but in this case, he was just telling the truth - and we almost proved him right with our stand-around 2-minute offense and our hope-the-ball-bounces-my-way defensive rebounding.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Be that as it may, he's still a very good coach.

It was cringe-inducing. No lead is safe with this team.

And yet no game is out of reach.

I think they're trying to kill us with accumulated stress.

Yeah it's the truth, but it's also a completely useless thing to say to your players in that situation.  In fact, I would argue that it's counterproductive because it implies that all they have to do is wait for the Celtics to implode.  How did that work out for ya' Phil?

That is exactly my point. You would think Phil might tell them a thing or two to do to get back in the game.
