I agree with Bankshot that there is a fundamental disconnect between Nate not playing during the regular season, and any supposed Celtic interest in re-signing him now.  TP.  Something does not gibe.

I agree with Tai that Nate is the kind of idiosyncratic player who needs to be melded into a team during pre-season.  That does not mean that he necessarily would fit with the Cs after a better integration period, but he might.

I agree with Roy that it makes sense to get a decent backup PG (such as Nate) without touching the MLE, if we can.

I am beginning to think that we will go big at #19.  There's a better chance that some big guy like Alabi or Orton will be a useful rotation player in a few years that that one of the wings will be more than "average" in the NBA context.  I'd try for Mike Miller with the MLE, though I like Ridnour a lot too.

There have been some really good threads about the draft over on Blog-a-Bull.  I'm worried that Thibs will take for the Bulls at #17 the player the Cs have been targeting at #19.  The two teams are looking at the same players. :P

I think some people don't understand the nuances of cap-ology.  Nate Robinson is an upgrade over Eddie House as a trade asset, if Robinson can prove himself to be a more mature player in a bench role.  No one was ever going to trade for House because they wanted House.  Nate Robinson is a young player who has a chance to be developed into someone who another team actually wants.  Maybe Doc Rivers, if he comes back, can guide Robinson the way he did Rondo and develop a better point guard.

For Danny Ainge, the difficulty is in predicting how Nate Robinson will develop.  If the upside is worth the risk, then an attempt should be made to sign Robinson to a 2-3 year deal with an eye toward trading him after a year in some sort of package.  Imagine if, at some point in the future, instead of offering Scal, House, and JR Giddens, you can try to upgrade the team by offering a more mature, less selfish Robinson and the expiring contract of Rasheed Wallace?

To determine what the Celtics should do with regards to Nate Robinson means thinking beyond next season.

Very well said.

I'm pretty sure he'll follow the money and the playing time and is just smart enough to not ruin that.  Although I think he also sees a lot of 30 plus year olds here, and knows we're one Rondo injury and/or an all-star like Ray Allen away from really needing him. Helping to keep a champion on course would really help him the way it helped some other Celts like Glen Davis and Posey.

Amazing how many people jumped back on his ship after one good game as a Celtic....
the guy hucks up shots with no regard to how it affects the team/game.
Undersized, cant drive the lane like all of you who thought this trade was good said he could
His outside shot isnt nearly as good as Eddies
as much as doc said Nate was going to win them a game one of these days...Eddie would have won us two at this point...trade was a failure

His outside shot isnt nearly as good as Eddies

This year's stats:

Eddie House:  38.3% 3PT% in Boston (34.8% overall); .527 eFG% in Boston (.495 overall)

Nate Robinson:  41.4% 3PT% in Boston (39.0% overall); .516 eFG% in Boston (.524 overall)

I'd rank the two fairly evenly in terms of outside shooting, even if Eddie has the better reputation.

plus he can shoot off dribble, not just catch and shoot. House also had an annoying tendency to step out of bounds or on the pt line when shooting from the corner.
