" Lakers center Andrew Bynum had a substantial amount of fluid drained from his right knee Monday, according to a team spokesman.

Bynum had almost 2 1/2 ounces removed, after being slowed by torn cartilage in the knee for a little more than a month, an injury that has limited his time and effectiveness on the court.

He had 10 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes in his most recent game, Saturday against Phoenix in the finale of the Western Conference finals. Early in that game, he winced when he landed after completing a seven-foot turnaround shot but he kept playing.

Undergoing the procedure was a last resort, Bynum said.

"I didn't want to," he said. "I'm the one who had been fighting it the whole time. But it just got to a point where the swelling was just staying there, kind of like that green ball over there."

any cbers with medical knowledge about such processes?

does this bode very very badly for bynum to play in this series?

i wish him the best long term, but hope he decides to rest that knee for the next 2 -3 weeks for the short term.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Any one know if he'll be playing on Thursday.  I feel like he will still.

Kobe had his knee drained before the suns series and he played great, but that's kobe. Plus kobe doesn't have torn cartilage. Bynum will be gimpy at best, kinda like KG was earlier this season. Rondo should have no trouble blowing by bynum .

Apparently, it didn't do anything for him.

"It feels about the same, to be honest," Bynum said about his right knee that has a slight tear of the meniscus that will require surgery to repair it in the offseason.

Hopefully the Celtics exploit this and challenge Bynum on both ends.  When he's hurt, Bynum is ineffective and soft.

I can't believe how publicly this guy complains about his injury. He plays it up instead of downplaying it like 99% of athletes do.

Smokescreen may be correct. I am always amazed at how certain players are supposedly hurt and then they come out and just kill you. It's been happening for ages. Kobe's latest is a good example.
