SMH at this one. The words "Grant Hill" are the only thing that drew me to the thread. Grant has earned the respect that he gets from all knowledgable NBA followers.

I disagree with the OP on so many levels. I wanted Grant Hill with the Celtics just as much as the next guy, probably more, he's been one of my favorite players for as long as I can remember. That being said, I can't fault his reasoning at all for staying in Phoenix, in fact, I admire his loyalty. He displays characteristics I wish more players in the league would emulate.

Agreed.  Remember how we all complaining when guys like Karl Malone jumped ship for LA just for a chance to win a ring.  So many guys have done it in the league and we've ragged on most of them.  Grant Hill who is an extremely class guy chose to stay with Phoenix because his family enjoyed it.  If he had gone to the Knicks, then we could make this thread, but he didn't.  He chose to accommodate his family and he still played for a very good team this year.  It's not like his team was garbage.

No, no, no, I think it's pretty much unspoken agreement on every NBA board around the internet that Grant Hill is a no-go area in terms of ripping on him.

The guy possesses way too much generosity, good nature and talent as a basketball player to even think of it (well, at least I thought).

Hill still has plenty a solid few years left in him. Here's to hoping him and Nash get a ring, as long as it's not at the C's expense.

Hill made that decision for the well-being of his family AND to play on a team that he enjoyed playing for. And they did particularly well. I didn't see them making the WCF.

Grant Hill is one of the all-time class-acts of the NBA, right up there with Ray Allen.

I have huge respect for him and I'm with jackson_34 in saying that there is an unspoken agreement on not ripping on Grant Hill.

This thread makes no sense - a class act who went through literally years of brutal rehab despite the fact that he got paid either way, who decides to keep his family stable by staying in a city he loves, deserves to be ridiculed because he isn't wearing our preferred shade of laundry this year?

And oh yeah, a 2-time college champion who threw the best inbounds pass in NCAA history, and played his heart out at 37 in a conference finals against a much more talented team is "a born loser".  Ugh.  This just sounds mean-spirited and petty.  I hope no one ever holds the OP's accomplishments to the standards he applies to Hill.

I think I respect him more for staying put.  Jumping from team to team like Gary Payton/Karl Malone, etc, doesn't impress me at all.  These guys want to ride other players coattails and have a championship handed to them.  Good for Grant.

Karl Malone played for two teams in like 17 years of playing and tried his best to win a ring in utah. He is not exactly Q Rich or even a Robert Horry type.

So, if Ron Artest isn't in the right place at the right time for that rebound, and the Suns (with all the momentum) pull it out in OT, and then carry the momentum home and win the series, then Grant Hill is suddenly validated? Face it, angryguy, on top of needlessly attacking a guy who has the right to play wherever he wants, your logic makes no sense.

If I were an NBA player, I would love to have played for this year's Suns. They easily could have made it to the finals, they play a fun style, and did you see the chemistry they have? From afar it looked like it might have been the best in the league this year.

The Cs ended up making it further than the Suns but there's no way anyone could have known what would happen this year before it began. I'm curious what you would have thought about Grant Hill's decision a couple of months ago when you were practically boycotting the team along with poslmpos. My point is, this isn't a cut-and-dried thing where it was so unbelievably obvious from the start that Grant should have chosen the Cs. It really couldn't be further from that.

The OP sure got some grudge against Grant...the guy is a class act and will continue to earn my respect. Stop this non-sense since Roy is correct, we have not done anything yet at this point but win the East.

 

After he retires, you all can play the violin for him because he joins the list of players that should have a ring but doesn't. But I won't, he had his chance.  

If you believe in karma then I'd hold off on this. Boston hasn't won anything this year at all. And it's possible that Hill could turn out winning more games vs LA in the Playoffs this year then we do.
