You can whine about the crappy reffing, and Dwight Howard sharp elbows, but the man dominated the game last night.  He was swatting shots with authority from all directions, and cleaning up the offensive glass for dunks left and right.

The Magic's 3 point shooting was spectacular, but Dwight Howard won them the game last night.  Not the refs.

Someone posted this article in another thread:  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/397573-2010-nba-playoffs-joey-crawford-and-ed-rush-defeat-celtics-in-game-five ...

I expect Dwight to be dominant when they put all our bigs in foul trouble early with ticky-tacky non-shooting fouls... then completely take out the guy who is best at defending him with a (later recinded) technical.    Not hard for that guy to be dominant when the NBA takes out the best defender, puts everyone else in foul trouble (preventing any aggressive defense) and lets Dwight give out concussions to anyone else capable of slowing him.

Jameer Nelson is the one who dominated Game 5.

Howard certainly dominated on the defensive end, but it was Nelson who opened the offense up for Howard and the Magic's 3 point shooting.

Without Nelson the Magic would not be able to have a Howard scoring in the paint nor the Magic's success from the perimeter.

Probably important for the C's to note that DH was quite dominant in the S/R, but less so in the post.

S/R is a staple play in the NBA generally, but the Magic sometimes run it incredibly well to gain mismatches and get the big guy the ball going to the hoop, where his athleticism is a powerful weapon, instead of in the post, where his limited offensive creativity make him look merely human.

We (at CB) make much of Perk (and Sheed) as a post defender, but let's remember this limitation before putting Perk in the HOF.

howard also had a big game 2 - but the celtics won because their defense suffocated the rest of orlando's players.

to me, the bigger problem has been jameer nelson - ever since he started penetrating in game 4 and drawing defenders in to help, orlando's shooters have had more open shots, when before that, they got very few open looks at the basket.

so ..................  how is it that nelson has all of the sudden been able to penetrate into the lane and wreak havoc with our defense. what happened ??

The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

I actually think we should just let Jameer get to the cup.

I rather we give up 2 and not the 3.

The 3's really juice up the Magic and that's their game.

If we give up 2 points or just foul Jameer it's the same, almost, as Dwight getting 2 points.

  • You say when......
That wasn't a basketball game, that was CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING, with some guy named HULK HOWARD, giving everybody the flying elbow....BROTHER...! It was set up perfectly, 4 fouls on our stars in the first half, no one knows how they got them, so how can you keep from getting #5...? Well, one way is don't really play D, or much else, just what any team would do.....Doc needs to try bench guys before that happens again....he gambled on that, and lost. I said it a long time ago...WE NEED AN ENFORCER....give scal steroids....or trade him, or dump him for an enforcer...a real power guy...!

The Magic's 3 point shooting was spectacular, but Dwight Howard won them the game last night.  Not the refs.

I actually think it was Jameer Nelson's play dominating Rondo and getting open looks from behind the arc that won it for the Magic...

ALONG WITH THE REFS!...  (I do not believe that the league is fixed though that many do here, but that the refs have biases because they are human and it is natural reaction.  Officiating does have to be improved though.)

Can't take away what Dwight did though.  He dominated the game, but I feel if we had Perk he wouldn't have had his was as much as he did.

Don't believe we are 'whining', Red, and hate that excuse being used whenever there is a problem that needs to be addressed. The fact is Dwight played dirty and hurt our players and the refs purposely didn't give him fouls when he did that or techs.
I think the Magic team's real player is Jameer. He plays real basketball. Howard needs to be stopped before he injures someone permanently, if he hasn't already.
Can you imagine the body guards he's going to need coming into Boston? I hope it costs his team a lot of $$$$.

Its easy to dominate when all our bigs are either ejected, injured, or in massive foul trouble. He was allowed to dominate by the referees.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
