Perk calling for the ball on the block=FAIL

I'm not trying to be juvenile with my post, but seriously, why is Perk always calling for the ball on the block when he never does anything with it other than turn it over? I thought the days of Perk being a liability on offense were a thing of the past.

I agree.  Lately, I cringe whenever hes got the rock more than three feet from  the basket.  What happened to those post moves and hook shot he's been developing?  I would have to imagine that hes nursing some type of injury, because he clearly isn't the same player on the offensive end.

Me too. I cringe every single time they throw it to him. There was one play in particular where KG had the ball, drives, then dishes to a stationary Perkins who proceeds to miss badly. Stuff like that makes ZERO sense. The guys on the team trust Perk way more than i do apparently.

LOL I agree. I love Perk but we shouldn't be throwing the ball to him when we need a score. For an easy layup OK but asking him to make a move on his man should be option #1000Z. Especially because he probably won't get any calls if he's fouled and he's a poor FT shooter.

I think it comes back to what Doc Rivers has been saying though all of these playoffs.

Everyone wants to win, but we gotta do it together! even though we are all getting abit tired of hearing him say the same thing over and over.

The man has a point and its spot on, Perk wanting the ball on the post is one of these issue's of wanting to win so bad, that you forget what brought you this far.

So your right, its not the propper play to call for the ball when your Perk.. not in this series and not against the Lakers but when your talking about Perk he's most likely the most "team oriented" player we have had in a long time so i can live with him getting abit excited and wanting to do his part on the offensive end.

But im 110% sure Doc Rivers addressed this when Perk came out of the game, its not the propper play but sometimes emotions just becomes uncontrolable.

Btw: did anyone else but me allmost roll on the floor laughing when Perk went aggresive to the basket.. allmost shoulder blocking Dwight Howard so hard that he was so close to landing face first onto the floor?

That play was no doubt a foul on Perk on the initial play and then Dwight fouled him back when he was vertical in the air.

Just thought it was hillarious that Perk had no intention of going to the basket, he just went at Howard.. and oh boy did he get him on that play, that must have hurt like hell.

That's why Doc sits him a lot down the stretch of games in favor of Sheed or Baby.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Perk isn't great with the ball, but let's have some perspective here:  Perk missed two shots and had one turnover.  He added two assists and was 3-for-4 from the line.  In other words, he wasn't a big reason for this loss.

Silly blogger, points aren't for Perk.  Okay, so that was lame, but seriously, Perk has actually, gulp, regressed as an offensive player.  I wasn't sure that that was possible, but then again, this is the NBA, Where Amazing Happens.

Even Doc mentioned after the game that Orlando isn't guarding Perk, which is exactly what they should be doing.  That's why we need to move Perk and Baby for Greg Monroe on draft night and sign Jermaine O'Neal in the offseason (for a year or two) to be our starting center until the big man from Georgetown is ready.  I really wish that the above would happen, along with several other transactions over the course of the summer, but it won't.

The truly sad part is, his game has regressed so much to the point where i'm not even confident in him winning a one-on-one matchup against a much smaller defender like Lewis. He'd probably just end up getting stripped.

Perk is an important part of this team with his defense and shot blocking.  So you have to keep him happy by giving him a fair share of the offense.  Go to him early in the game until he gets his 8-9 shots in, then only go to him late if he is all alone underneath.  If he's calling for the ball in the 4th quarter, you just don't hear him.

I don't think Perk's game has regressed Offensively - he's just extremely rusty. Perk averaged 12+ rebs, 3 blocks and 12 PTs just a year ago - when both KG and Powe were hurt.

Perk was our Only Offensive Low Post threat last year - against both CHI (A very good Joakim Noah) and ORL (Dwight) in the playoff run.

He seems out of it this year, because we now have Sheed taking some touches from him, and KG is finally rounding into game form.

If you noticed earlier this season, Perkins was averaging about 14-15 pts per game. His final regular season average was over 10, at 10.1 pts per game. His PPG average is going up nearly every yr, save I think his 06-07 season.

As for your trade suggestion - Greg Monroe is a Nice PF, but not a center. He's only like 6'9"? And from the few games I've seen from him this year, he appears to be not too enamored on Post Play.

And Jermaine O'Neal? Dwight would shred J.O. in any game we played against him, should we do such a trade. In the 5 games we've played against ORL this series, Dwight has broken loose only twice, and he won't do it next game. Perk has bottled him up for the most part.

Perk just cant beat Howard offensively but hes the best doing it deffensively.
Almost noone can beat howard offensively on the post
thats why offensively garnett have to beat him from outside to nulify him as strategy No uno.
