Why no timeout at the end of regulation?

I'm not somebody who believes you always have to call a timeout to set up a play at the end of regulation.  Sometimes, it makes sense to attack the rim in transition. 

However, tonight was a different story.  The offense was terrible all night, especially in transition.  Rondo was tentative, and wasn't attacking.  At the same time, Doc is one of the better coaches in the league at calling plays out of timeouts, at least historically.

Why, then, did Doc decide to let the team play?  I've got no problem with giving the ball to Paul on the last shot, but it's got to be set up better than that.  In my opinion, it was a terrible, terrible decision.

I think it was the right call. I'll take my chances with pp and not letting them set up their defense. Orl was in scramble mode and had pp not lost the ball, we would have had a good look.

He didn't want Magic to make adjustments and substitutions. A lot of it was Rondo's fault. He should've gave the ball up in the back-court, Pierce was waiting for it. Instead he brought the ball up wasting precious seconds, and Magic defense got set.

you call a timeout 10 out of 10 times...THIS meant getting to the FINALS---What was he thinking?...we had 2 timeouts left-!

NOW, we look tired as hell with this 8 man rotation---not feeling good about this.

Like I said, I don't agree. We all know the play was going to be a pp iso. Why give Orl an opportunity to set up their defense and bring in their best defenders?

Doc was just talking about this in the post game presser. He said that the team knew what play to run, and that the spacing was just terrible on that last possession. Thus, when PP was doubled, he had a hard time passing it out. He went on to say that their execution the whole game was terrible.

Uhhhh we had 3 timeouts left in regulation. (Reminder, you lose those timeouts in OT).

We should have called a timeout for the following reasons.

1.) We were gassed.

2.) We could set up our players to space the floor (if that's what we wanted).

3.) We could have made sure the ball got to the right player immediately.


There just seemed to be too much confusion and poor execution that we couldn't even get up a shot attempt.

it was ENORMOUSLY IDIOTIC...I don't care what they say post game...you have a chance to CLOSE it out and get to the FREAKING Finals...you call a timeout....he should have called a timeout on the previous possession too.



But there were WAY too many Ticky Tack fouls called on us in the 4th---Magic were in the penalty with about 6 minutes to go--and got numerous CHEAP free throws to end regulation...thanks SCOTT FOSTER--!!

I dont care what anyone says <--- as ridiculous that sounds it applys and is true here....CALL THE TIMEOUT! Phil/Pop any top coach would have called the timeout no idea what Doc was thinking that cost us the game.

Operation David Stern tick tack fouls now!! We have to extend this series rating ratings now. I thought Rondo was goaltented 3 times and was hacked also. Lucky and tragic...DOC WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL TIME OUT TO REGROUP. AAAHHAHHH!!! as the great Charlie Brown would say.

What the heck was that all about?  Doc is supposed to be one of the best coaches at drawing up plays out of time outs, and the Celtics have some of the best weapons for end-of-game situation plays.

So why no timeout with 15 seconds left?  We had two left, if I'm not mistaken.  If Ray had hit one of those nicely set up 3 pointers at the end of the second half instead of in OT, the C's could have won the game.  Instead, we saw yet another Pierce iso flounder.  The C's didn't even get a shot attempt on that last possession.

Really a head-scratcher.  That was by no means the reason the Celtics lost, but it's hard not to feel that they certainly could have - perhaps even should have - won the game on that last possession, but apparently didn't even try to give themselves the best chance they could.

You know what it was the reason why we lost. 14.6 SEC timeout give us a chance to win and rest before the finals call a dorn timeout DOC. No excuses!!
