So obviously I'm pumped that the C's are still going strong in the playoffs but then it dawned on me that the negative to this is we are probably going to have to deal with the same frustrations during the regular season next year as we did this year. If we win the title then it was all worth it but so many times during the regular season I had to shut the game off because it was annoying to watch these guys not really try/care.

I know I'm looking ahead and all but do you think that the playoff success will justify the treatment of the regular season in the players minds?

Things probably will be better next year because of the (expected) roster turnover and the veterans hopefully wanting to show the new guys how you need to play to win a championship

Do you think their apathy for the regular season had anything to do with Nate not really working out? Meaning because Nate saw the rest of the team not really giving it all and he had no playoff experience to fall back on, he never learned how to play Cletics basketball?

Nothing bad can ever come from beating the Cavs. That's like saying cancer has an upside.

I can live with a half effort during the reg season if it gives them a better chance in the playoffs next year. I sucks for fans, but it's worth it if it brings a title.

It is possible that Nate was victimized by a lack of practice as Doc tried to save the legs of the old guys. Doc is one of the coaches most likely to cancel a practice or shoot around to get players rest. That hurts the new guys who are youngish and who don't have phenomenal basketball IQs.

Hey, here's a thought....don't watch if it upsets you so much.
Seriously, can't you just enjoy the postseason?

The only bad thing I have seen is that the Celtics play on the same night as Lost again.

Oh well.

I can watch Lost later on the computer.

Are you serious with this thread? FYI....there is NOTHING bad about the Celtics beating Lebron and the Cavs in the post-season. NOTHING. Would you rather have a team that wins 60 plus games a year like the Cavs and gets ousted in the playoffs?

Posts like this crack me up...

Now that we know that there is, in fact, a "switch", I'll feel much better with a mediocre regular season next year.  If that's what it takes to reach the playoffs rested and healthy, no problem.

I mean, it was a tough season to watch, but right now we have a realistic shot at a title along with the #19 pick in the draft.  That's not so bad, right?

I think it was Shaq who used to say the playoffs were the real season.  The Pistons, Spurs, and Lakers used to seem to take the whole season off, scraping by just enough wins for home court advantage in the first and maybe second round, and then repeatedly make (if not win) the Finals.

I'm sorry, I thought the objective of the Celtics was to win the NBA Championship. So I'll worry about old age and loss of athletism another day.

Now, stay out of my way and allow me to make the Celtics win. It is the only job I know this time of year.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Every year is different. There may have been a switch this year; there's absolutely no reason to believe there will be done next year.

Theree's no sugarcoating the way the Celts played for long stretches of the regular season.  Whatever the reason, it was difficult to watch.  I sincerely hope that it's not the new recipe for success, because I do try to enjoy each and every game.

Obviously the product they're trotting out in the post season (save for one and half games) has been high quality entertainment.
Yup

We had a great first half and then injuries came. We can't ignore that at our own convenience. Did the team want to take it a bit easy during the season? Sure. But that alone doesn't explain the poor 2nd half. We had injuries, we responded bad to them, and simply lacked a lot of focus, particularly to close out games. I mean, many of the games we lost came after holding big leads.

So this isn't entirely an effort issue, as much as it is a focus issue.

And while there's no guarantee that switch could be made, there's also no guarantee that a switch might be needed.

And also, I think this switch that has been insinuated, as I mentioned in another thread, has been a bit exaggerated particularly in that it ignores how we little by little were playing better and better as we became healthier and healthier throughout the 2nd half. Though we had some pitfalls, but there was a general improvement going on that culminated with the arrival of the playoffs.

Hopefully they don't win a title because then the regular season would be unbearable.
