I wrote on the main page that this may have been the best Celtics single-game playoff performance ever. And, while I know that may be a little over the top, think about this. When was the last time a barely 6-foot point guard had 18 rebounds, 4 of them on the offensive end? That is freakish. If that was all he did he would have been outstanding, but we all know the rest. One for the ages, and so glad that my son and I were there to see it. Writing Rondo's numbers on the back of the ticket stub for my son's collection.

Not only that... I think this was the day that, metaphorically, this became Rondo's team. And he proved himself a legit top dog, one who could win a title without a big three around him.

Momentous day for a player we all love.

Today put to rest the ridiculous argument (not on this board, but common among detractors from other teams) that Rondo is overrated and just a product of playing with the Big Three.

The argument was moronic sour grapes from the start because so many of the things Rondo does (defense, rebounding, pushing the ball and generating advantages) are independent of who his teammates are. I've always thought he would put up bigger numbers on a bad team, at least scoring. And those weren't future HOF's he was dropping dimes to today in Tony and Baby.

Amen.  You cannot explain 18 rebounds away.

Rondo's playoff numbers for 2008-09 and 2009-10

23 games
41.5 MPG
17.3 PPG
10.4 APG
8.6 RPG
2.3 STPG
44% FG%
71% FT%

TP. That is insane.

Yikes... only two other players with at least 29, 13, and 18 in the NBA playoffs.

(Wilt and the Big O)

Crazy.

I love how much attention Rondo is getting on SportsCenter tonight... he's earned  superstar status.

They're mentioning the fact that he got 18 boards roughly once per minute. Awesome!

Just when I think Rondo can't put up more ridiculous statlines he goes out and has a game like this. 18! rebounds I'm impressed when bigs pull down that many. I don't know he manages to be such a beast on the boards at his size. As always, I'm so glad we got his extension done.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Even having watched the game, this statline is unreal.  Wow.

I wonder how many NBA players can state that their playoff game highs for one post season were 29 points, 18 rebounds, 19 assists, and four steals.

Just sitting here still having a hard time believing what he did today. I forget exactly when it was in the third quarter that my son and I looked up at the scoreboard and saw he had a triple double. The game was so exciting, we lost track of his rebounds, but when he got the offensive board and key hoop in the fourth quarter, we looked back up at the board and he had 17. 18 rebounds is truly amazing.

This isn't 'venturing into Larry Bird territory' as someone commented on page one. This is a different realm, one inhabited by only Wilt and Oscar. Larry dominated the game in so many ways that can't be measured and I am not in any way trying to discount his game. However, what Rondo did statistically today has only been accomplished by the two most dominant statistical players of all time in the NBA, Wilt and Oscar. When you do that and lead your team to victory, you are a very, very special player. At the beginning of this year I said emphatically that Rondo would have a bigger impact then any other player on the C's this year. If he continues to improve, and he will, this guy may do some things the league has never seen.

Yeah, Rajon can soon become one of those legit "P/R/A superstars", e.g. Wilt, Oscar, Magic, Bird, Bron.

The PGs in this newly-invented club are Oscar, Magic, and Jason Kidd. Think Rondo deserves to be on the list?

Maybe if he can have an elite rebounding year one regular season, maybe 7 rpg

  • Rondo = Good
I know we all love to hate on Bill Simmons around here recently, but he made a good point on Twitter tonight...it's a really good thing the Celtics inked an extension with Rondo early in the season, because after his post-season performance there's a really good chance somebody would have offered him $15-20 million a year (max money).
