Thanks for finding this.  I am doing impulse tomorrow and this is a great example how different forces effect the time.  (Rondo having his feet on the ground uses friction to stop and turn is a greater force (thus less time) then the air resistance of the two flying defenders (this taking more time)

I also liked the fact that Rondo switched the ball to his left hand and thus, protected a potential swipe, via his right arm facing the Cavs. It's a perfect play  :D !

One of the beauties of this move is than even if he knows varejao and parker will not be able to raise again. They were lost , he even secure the basket going left hand showing the capability of complicate the move even more for the defense. definitly a work of art

Awesome move by Rondo, he looked kind of surprised to see that he got both Parker and Varejao in the air!

As a Cavs fan I feel obligated to mention that this was a travel since his right foot was his pivot foot and that is what he dragged across the key.

But, travels get missed all the time, and being a fan of the team with Lebron, I can't ever complain about a travel not being called.

All that being said, I absolutely loved that move as a basketball fan.
I have no idea what you're talking about.  I don't see a travel anywhere.

I think he is referring to the skid. If you notice Rondo's feet, they slide when he plants them. Not sure if that technically is a travel but for the NBA it surely isn't.

I would say that this move is a perfect example of how much rollerskating has helped rondo  ;)

I don't know the exact rule on it, but i believe MAC is referring to the fact that he slides about a foot on the floor before coming to a stop, with both feet clearly in motion without a dribble.

Not sure what the rule on that is, players normally aren't going so fast that they can skid by coming to a stop :D

My second thought, after closing my jaw, was in fact that it's a travel.

But, as other's have pointed out, considering the murder that players are allowed to get away with, I'm very glad the officials didn't ruin that awesome move by calling a travel.

Side note, what is the rule on that? can you come to a stop via sliding?

I guess it comes down to if your pivot foot is established once your slide ends or when you plant? i guess?

Or at least that's my (probably wrong) thinking, that this may not be a travel because his pivot isn't established until he comes to a stop from the slide?

Regardless, just an absolutely brilliant move.

Technically a travel? Probably

Compared to other no calls? Not even close to as bad as taking an extra step on layups.

Did it even help the move? Hard to say, but I think even if it plants hard, those dudes are long gone.

It was really a top gun bait and switch.

Top Gun - put the breaks on and let them fly by.
Bait - show them the ball
Switch - back to his left for the layup

Looking at the video though, doesn't it look like Rondo dragged his pivot foot when he was coming to a stop on that play?  Isn't that a travel?
Bingo. It is a very clear travel. You can't slide your feet to gain advantage.

Probably true. On the other hand, that LeBron "jump stop" appears to be legal (had to brush up on the rules, apparently the current wording allows it).

Beautiful is right...

It's funny though... Rondo actually traveled there, and the "Lebron's travel" video actually was not a travel. Irony.
