This would be a great idea if Jermaine O'Neal really was a factor anymore. But he's not.
Perk completely takes JO out of his game all by himself. I mean, we are talking about harassing a player that was 3 for 14, scored 8 points and went to the FT line twice. This season versus Boston, including the other night, he's shooting 20 for 51 or 39%, and has only gone to the FT line 10 times in 130 minutes.
Does that sound like a player that we need to be trying to get into the head of so that he can play poorly?
Can't we do better than to start a chant to bother a player that Kendrick Perkins is already bothering pretty easily? I say come up with something clever to harass Beasley or Wade. They are the guys who worry me on this team.
Beasley is too easy. It has been proven that he lets the name "Tito" get in his head. I'm surprised the Garden has not been chanting that every time he touches the ball already.
Wade, I fear, is the type of player who would feed off crowd chants. Thus, I think it might be in the best interest to ignore him. Maybe everyone in the section behind the basket should just turn their back to him in silence as he shoots free throws instead of screaming wildly. It would be so weird that it might throw him off a bit.
Yeah, I wouldn't mess with Wade (although perhaps a "Tony is better" chant could work), but I just think JO is so much fun to mess with.
You are right about that. JO is fun to mess with. personally, I would love to see crowd mess with all the players on the Heat regardless of how important they are, except maybe Wade for obvious reasons. However, "Tony is better" is the softball-lob right over the plate just waiting to be crushed out of the park.
Among the other chants discussed here and in the Q-Rich thread:
Chalmers should hear "Arroyo is better."
Joel Anthony should hear "Who the heck are you?"
The rest of the Heat player should hear "Expiring contract. clap. clap. clap.clap.clap."
