Looks like we have also signed guard Oliver Lafayette.

So sorry to those who have a personalized Tyronn Lue jersey on ice.

Well this is interesting. Why would we sign two guys with two games left in the season, when there's almost zero chance they see the floor? Did Danny get bored?

Because it's a waste to leave those roster spots unused. If Nate and Tony went down, we'd be down to 1 pg. Also, it gives us an almost exclusive look at them and opportunity to lock them in if we like them. Nothing to lose, except for a couple WycBucks.

Tony Gaffney sounds like Jarvis Varnado-lite to me.  Athletic PF who is undersized but makes up for it with excellent length and good timing on blocked shots.  Thin, will probably need to bulk up some to defend a lot of 4's.  Will rebound and block shots, but not much of an offensive game to speak of aside from the occasional garbage bucket.  Great motor.

Hopefully the Sean Williams fans can accept this compromise - same kind of player without the baggage.

Ridiculous Upside reports that the Celts have offered both players non-guaranteed deals for next year, meaning they get a free look at them over the summer:

Hmm...strange they sign two people who are totally unheard of, though.  You'd think they could sign some mostly retired vets or something.  I guess bringing in some youth instead can't hurt.

He did this back when the C's were bottom dwellers as well with some center from the D-league (who ended up not making the team the next season).  Basically, sign him right now to a non-guaranteed 2-year deal, and have the summer to work with him, bring him to camp, and let him try to earn a spot.

I think that was Kevin Pinckney in 06-07!  :D If so, I remember him having a good game or two (including several dunks in a game?). Just thought I'd throw that out there; I don't know anything about Gafney.

No, Pinkney was a 10 day contract because they needed an extra body.  Danny signed someone (who I don't think ever played), for the following season.

Yup, makes perfect sense.  Danny likes to do this sort of thing with these kind of players.

Practice bodies, and to lock them up for the summer to get an extended look at them.

Oh, oops. Maybe that was Brandon Wallace who was signed during summer league in 2007 and then was waived early on during the 07-08 season?

Neh.  I think it was Elton Brown, but I can't find any reference to it.

If Gafney can play above the rim, then I'm all for it. I think thats our biggest weakness right now. He might be able to have the impact of a 2 inch shorter Birdman, or he might be out by training camp. Not my money, so I'm all for it. W ejsut need some guys with bounce out there.

No idea about Lafayette, but he already had my favorite name on the roster.

We should sign Alton Brown.

There aren't actually any minutes available for vets.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I'm stoked...  This ranks right up there with the excitement I felt when the Celtics signed Brett Szabo...

Because you know these guys are going to be over analyzed to death once the C's off season officially starts?
