Your biggest good surprise of the season :

Paul Pierce's three point shooting. He has fallen off from behind the arch as of late, but he was ridiculous for a while.

Your biggest bad surprise of the season :

The consistent lack of effort by the Celtics; truly sickening.

The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) :

Rondo

The player who disappointed you the most :

Daniels

The worst loss of the season :

Losing to the Lakers after out playing them for most of the game.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that pleased you the most :

Michael Finley--I thought he was cooked, but he proved me wrong.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that disappointed you the most :

Rasheed Wallace. I've come to dislike everything this guy does, yes, even when go goes, "Ball don't lie; that ball don't lie!"

Your favorite player to watch this season :

I'd go with Rondo here.

The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the case before :

Scalabrine, he has hardly been seeing any action lately. That makes me happy.

The player that has lost some credit for you this season while he was one of your favorite(s) before :

I have to go with Kevin Garnett here. I understand he is, in all likelihood, playing hurt, but I've lost some respect for him, especially since he called out the fans.

The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season :

I'd go with Paul Pierce.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement :

I like Ray Allen fast break three pointers and Rondo fake behind the back layups.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair :

This is an easy answer for me: any time Perk touches the ball or sets a screen. Seriously, the guy is a walking turnover. His scowl at the refs is getting old, too.

The best play of the season :

The Rondo game winner against Miami was nice. I also liked KG's game winning jumper against the Knicks. That game, though it is going a ways back, was great because it sparked a nice winning streak.

Your biggest good surprise of the season : That KG, luckily (crossing fingers and touching wood here) didn't get injured severely again. Not really a surprise, but it's one of the few good things that happened this season.

Your biggest bad surprise of the season : The third quarter collapse (2 years ago, we were the best 3rd quarter team in the league).

The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) : No-one (I always believed in Tony Allen).

The player who disappointed you the most : Both Rasheed and Daniels. Eddie in second - if he had just played better, we might not have had to trade him.

The best win/your favorite win of the season : Any against a contender.

The worst loss of the season : Against the Nets.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that pleased you the most : Michael Finley. I was pleased that we added Nate, but I thought he could bring more.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that disappointed you the most : Both Rasheed and Daniels.

Your favorite player to watch this season : Anyone who plays well (sadly, this has not happened as often as I had hoped).

The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the case before : Nobody who was not a favourite of mine has played well for this team.

The player that has lost some credit for you this season while he was one of your favorite(s) before : Perkins - he's forced it in the post a bit too much. Also Rasheed.

The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season : Pierce was good for a while, Ray was good for a while, and KG was good for a while. They're tied (and not in a good way).

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement : The win (that rare play brought out only on special occasions where we play better and score more points than the other team in 48 minutes).

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair : Glen Davis not kicking out after the offensive rebound and getting his shot stuffed back in his face.

The best play of the season : Rondo's buzzer-beater alley-oop tied with Eddie House's behind-the-back falling-out-of-bounds pass.

It's common to do some "predictions threads" before the season starts, but we rarely see some "look back" threads about the season, so I thought it would be interesting to do one for once. I know the regular season isn't over yet but with something like 6 games left, you can pretty much answer to this little "form" :

Your biggest good surprise of the season :[/b Ray Allen's play since the trade deadline/TA's play.
Your biggest bad surprise of the season : KG not improving.
The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) :Mike Finley or Shelden Williams.
The player who disappointed you the most : Rasheed Wallace.
The best win/your favorite win of the season :At Oklahoma City or at Dallas.
The worst loss of the season :Wizards at home.
The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that pleased you the most :Finley.
The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that disappointed you the most :Wallace.
Your favorite player to watch this season :Rondo.
The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the case before :N/A
The player that has lost some credit for you this season while he was one of your favorite(s) before :N/A.
The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season :Paul Pierce.
The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement :A beautiful pass by Rondo, Ray dunking on the break, Pierce showing he can still explode to the cup, and TA gettin' in somebody's jersey defensively.
The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair : Rasheed Wallace not even making an effort to help on D.
The best play of the season : Rondo Alley-oop to beat Miami.

That's a lot of questions and you don't have to answer all of them if you don't feel like it's worth it or you don't have the time to do it, but I think it can be interesting to see what are the fans' opinions on these matters after a season that we can clearly qualify as disappointing and surprising.

You can quote my post to fill in the form directly, it's easier to do it that way!
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Might that have been a result of our continuity -- the same veteran starting lineup for a third year?

The truth hurts.

I don't think so. That starting lineup performed very well. The problem was that any change out of the starting 5 resulted in major chaos to our chemistry and production.
The fact that they performed well is the point. We could start off strong because we knew one another. It took time for other teams to catch up. But they did catch up.

Considering how many games we lost in the 3rd or with the starters on the floor in the 4th, I am not also not sure how changes were relevant. With everyone healthy, we haven't been good. I'm not sure there is a basis for saying we have a chemistry issue.

Perhaps Pierce's health could be a partial explanation too. KG, not so much since he was far from impressive when we started the season strong.

The Big 3 aren't so "Big" anymore.  That's all the explanation you need for why our starting 5 is no longer the best in the NBA as it was the last two seasons.

Maybe it's injuries, or maybe it's just old age - or the former caused by the latter - but KG, Ray, and Paul (especially the first two) just aren't the same players they were when the C's won it all.  This team was built to succeed when the Big 3 all play like All-Stars.  Now that they aren't consistently playing at that level, the team isn't dominant anymore - the same gameplan doesn't work as well as it did.

Unfortunately, Rondo and Perk are still just elite complementary players at this point; they can't pick up the slack.  Unless Rondo develops a jumpshot and a better scoring mentality, all he'll ever be is an elite distributor who has to be surrounded by stars to succeed.  Perk is probably as good as he'll ever be.

Our bench is pretty awful, as well, which only makes things worse - which is perhaps the biggest surprise of the season, considering the off-season additions seemed so good at the start of the season.

Your biggest good surprise of the season : TA finding a role and playing it consistently.

The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) : Shelden Williams--I expected nothing, and he seems to be a decent 4th big.
The player who disappointed you the most : SHEED!
The best win/your favorite win of the season : Christmas
The worst loss of the season : My faith.
The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that pleased you the most : None of them--if none of them come back, I'm cool with it.
The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that disappointed you the most : SHEED!
Your favorite player to watch this season : I've enjoyed watching Shelden actually box out in his few minutes, and Ray's trigger is pure joy.
The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the case before : TA.  I appreciate Tony's hustle more, now that it's so lacking on the rest of the roster.

The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season : PP
The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement : PP fakes at the elbow, then actually gets to the rim and finishes strong
The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair : Casino Tony craps out...
The best play of the season : BBD plowing someone over shooting a 3 (forgot which game).

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Your biggest good surprise of the season : Kevin Durant and the Thunder? seriously, I can't name anything Celtic related.

Your biggest bad surprise of the season : KG's terrible lateral movement

The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) : Tony

The player who disappointed you the most : Rasheed

The best win/your favorite win of the season : Opening day

The worst loss of the season : Nets at home

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the
season -  that pleased you the most :
Sheldon Williams when given the opportunity he played well.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the
season -  that disappointed you the most :
Rasheed Wallace he's clearly just collecting his check at this point.

Your favorite player to watch this season : Rajon Rondo

The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the
case before :
Not applicable... Rondo is about the only player that hasn't let me down this year.

The player that has lost some credit for you this season while he was one of
your favorite(s) before :
Just when I was starting to really like Perk he starts running his mouth and stinking it up.

The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season : Ray, but there have been clear signs of decline, IMO.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement
:
Don't remember any this season.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair :
Anytime Sheed takes a 3 in crunch time

The best play of the season :
Pierce to Rondo to tie the game in Miami.

This entire season has been a fricken fraud. They ought to give up their spot to Toronto.

The beatings will continue until morale improves

the behind the back out of bounds save from eddie house to tony all en for the slam AND 1...easily the best play of the year and too bad we traded eddie for someone who doesnt play and well tony allen doesnt get the time he deserves in my opinion.  While i mention it i wish we kept powe instead of rasheed we woulda saved money and not had to see sheed at all
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

I give them a B for the season.  They won 60% of their games and won their division and have a shot at winning it all.

1.The best game of the season for me was winning on Xmas Day(without Pierce).
2.Worst loss:Nets at home.
3.Biggest disappointments was a combination of management,team,coaching.
4.Least disapponting:I never expected any better from Rasheed.Changing teams doesn't always change a person.
5.No one player stood out this season in a good way.
6.Disappointed by little growth in Perk's game from last season.
7.My next statement can be in a category of its own:Rondo grew in areas, but   theres a few he didn't.Im disappointed in his one on one defensive play, foul shooting%rising or lack of,and developing a consistent shot.
8.overall i give the organization a B-for the regular season.
9.We might never find out but i felt there is/were some issues in the lockerroom that need/needed to be addressed before next season...(chemistry issues)

and are healthy at the start of the playoffs. Remember last year at this time when most of us would have given anything to have a healthy team going into the playoffs? If we could have chosen between winning 50 games this year and going in with a healthy lineup or winning 62 and going in banged up most of us wouldn't hesitate to take the first choice.

Your biggest good surprise of the season :

I have been plesantly suprised with how durable Kevin has been this season. He can still get it done in the paint when he needs to but he learned to adapt his game in order to maximize the long-gevity of his legs. The man can stand at the equivilent of the college three-point line and just drill the majority of the jumpers he takes from there even though he was drafted straight from high-school. He still has one of the best turn-around jumpers in the league and wasn't afraid to keep making alley-oops this season even though he injured himself last year in an alley-oop attempt. I'm hoping to see maybe even more of the old (younger) Kevin in the playoffs since by now he must be alot less afraid to use his hops now that we are playing in elimination series('s). Back during his Minnesota days he was notorious for being one of the best shot-blockers in the league and was recording plenty of highlight blocks early this season.

Your biggest bad surprise of the season :

I was hoping to see more varied offensive production from Rondo. While Rondo is hands down one of the best at getting into the paint and finishing (doesn't travel like LeBron  ;)) I was hoping he'd use some of that mindset and instead of going into the key and trying a fancy lay-up while avoiding the other team's frontcourt I was hoping he'd instead take some opportunities to just stop maybe even right before he gets into the paint and just take an open (or semi-contested) jumper when one is available. Rondo is a good shooter, he has made plenty of circus shots for us at the ends of games, quarters and even to bail us out at the end of a shot clock and he did as well as we could've hoped for in the horse competition (second place - not bad) so if he could continue to look for more places on the court (whether within or right around the key or easier, open 3-pt looks) to take jumpers from it can't hurt. Some of our guys could possibly even bail him out with an offensive rebound here or there if there is any noticable slack in Rondo's shooting percentage as he takes more jumpers but only he knows which shots he is truly the most comfortable taking. Rondo is a great playmaker so his ability to find easier and easier ways to get the ball into the basket is crucial for us.

The player who surprised you the most (in a good way) :

Paul Pierce

The player who disappointed you the most :

Marquis Daniels

The worst loss of the season :

The last time we played the Hawks because they are 4-0 against us this season

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that pleased you the most :

Rasheed Wallace - He, Like the Big 3 have beaten the Lakers in the NBA Finals before.

The newest addition - either signed this summer or acquired/signed during the season -  that disappointed you the most :

Marquis Daniels - I was hoping that we could add Allen Iverson as a bench scorer this season. unfortunately, the only team that was willing to pick him up at the beggining of this season was the Grizzlies and he was shooting a much better percentage than his career average as a role-player for them. Iverson also is a great distributor of the ball, though he lacks size.

Your favorite player to watch this season :

Ray Allen/Paul Pierce - I think they are still the best SG/SF combo in the league

The player that has become a favorite of yours this season while it was not the case before :
Kendrick Perkins

The player that has lost some credit for you this season while he was one of your favorite(s) before :

Scalabrine - Though he helped us out immensly in the Chicago series last year this season he has been missing most of his 3-pt attempts (badly in some cases).

The member of the Big Three who did the best job this season :

Paul Pierce - he has improved his 3 pt shooting immensely and can still beat you off of the dribble and get a lay-up, dunk or just get to the line.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you jump of your seat in joy/excitement :

Paul Pierce fade-aways in close games, Kendrick Perkins dunks, Kevin Garnett blocks, Ray Allen wide open behind the line and Glen Davis working the glass.

The "classic" Celtics plays that make you "facepalm" and sigh in despair :

Rasheed Wallace technicals, for sure.

The best play of the season :

Kevin Garnett's vintage game-winner over the Knicks. He took that jumper from the same spot Michael Jordan took his most famous game-winner over the Jazz in the 1998 NBA Finals, 'cept Garnett is taller than MJ so it's much more difficult to gaurd him all the way out there ;D

I will try to do this after the season is over.  Now, it just seems like evaluating the stew while the meat and veggies are still cut up on the board.  I will have to wait until the stew is done.
