How many people were on my side with this?

During the 2006 NBA Draft, I was very disgruntled when the Celtics got Rajon Rondo from Phoenix in the trade for the 21st pick, because I couldn't believe we had passed up on UConn's point guard Marcus Williams.

Let's all be completely honest.  Williams was a hell of a player coming out of college, had a sweet jump shot, and had just beaten Rondo's Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament's second round!

Was anyone else with me on this?  No lying!

  I still think the "Danny picking Rondo over Marcus Williams is the worst decision in the history of the Celtics" is something of a standard-bearer for poorly chosen thread topics.

  Not that I started it or anything.

I didn't have much opinion on the Rondo draft/trade thingy until that summer league when he clearly out played Telfair in every sense of the word.

Yet for some reason Telfair was handed the starting job.

I think they hid Rondo knowing how good he was and knowing they were going to do major trades. He was Danny's pick from the start. Danny said he would've take 5th,was it?

I didn't know Rondo's or William's game well enough to know if either of those guys was worth a pick. I don't follow collage ball.... I know that there were a lot of Rondo lovers on this list and a ton of Rondo haters, but I don't remember who was who. I'm very happy with Rondo and think he's a top 5 point guard no matter how you figure it.

I didn't like Marcus Williams for us, but I also had no real clue how good Rondo was.

For Rondo's first season with Doc, I felt Danny made another draft bust on PGs for us.

But Rondo has blossomed into specialness.

Allow me to gloat. ;D

I was one of a handful of people on this board that wanted Danny to pick Rondo with the 7th pick.  I had been following Rondo since he was a freshman in college.

Yup.  As another one of the handful, I can attest to this.  Although I will admit that I didn't think Rondo would be quite so good, quite so fast.  He was a binky of mine throughout his college years as well.

Not going to lie, I wanted Danny to draft Marcus Williams, but boy do I thankt God that he traded for and got Rondo.

I liked Marcus Williams a lot and didn't know much about Rondo, but I wasn't really worked up about it.

Rondo won me over pretty quickly in his rookie preseason.  He was doing things I'd never seen before right from the get go.  I wasn't sure what he'd turn out to be, but I immediately enjoyed watching him play.

I had been wanting Rondo, but all the "experts" that spoke during the draft had me reconsidering.  Jay Bilas really slammed Rondo, making him seem pretty useless.  Meanwhile, Williams was praised for his Jason Kidd type body, great shooting, and good passing.  I was still wondering if we should have taken Williams after the two matched up in the preseason.  Williams looked pretty gifted in that game, and Rondo didn't do much.  But before long it became obvious which one worked on his game more.

Onto the subject at hand. I loved Rondo at Kentucky. When I heard Danny was going to draft him I though, "Great but at 7?". That concerned me. When they got him later that night after what I considered a simply horrible trade to get Telfair I became much happier.

I never liked Williams and always thought him a bit too slow on his feet and I bit too big in his head. The kids ego was out of whack with his abilities, IMO.

From the moment I joined this site I have been pushing Rondo's ability and future greatness. I love now having the ability to stop defending him and gloat on my ability to pick out future star PGs.  ;) ;D
