They've all been up and down.  Right now I like Finley and wish NATE could get more minutes. Baby's played well of late but the way he started the season I really can't pick him.  TA had a couple of good games. RW has been up and down but good. Shelden has not gotten to play.  I don't remember the guy from the Red Claws name. MD has been up and down. Rasheed has been the only bench guy to play in all the games( Maybe he missed a couple...) I'd say the bench needs to pick it up.

Is this a case of TA secretly starting a thread again?   ;)
:o
don't worry i'm definately not tony!
i just wanted to hear people's opinions...not standing up for rasheed since i feel he hasn't played up to his level  but when you look at the bench overall I can't come up with anyone who is THAT much better than the rest
mind you this bench has at times outplayed the starting unit, at times davis, sheed, tony, eddie/nate, marquis and even shelden have looked really good but consistancy has plagued the bench i feel as much as it has the starters, be it injury or what have you

The best bench player this season? Of course it's Rasheed Wallace...

I feel the word "best" implies that someone has been good. So I'll go with Nate followed by Finely. They have the smallest sample of games, so they have an advantage here.

Believe it or not but the bench player that has fulfilled his role the best from day one, has been the most consistent, has most often outperformed his expectations and hasn't missed a huge bank of games due to injury has been....

Tony Allen!!!

I tend to agree, but I think this is all about meeting lowered expectations.
Well, of the bench players that have been here all year(Allen, Williams, Wallace, Davis, Daniels and Scalabrine) Tony has

- the second highest PER
- the second highest winning percentage
- the most assists per 48 minutes
- the most steals per 48 minutes
- the third highest points per 48 minutes
- the third highest rebounds per 48 minutes

Not to shabby for a guy with low expectations

Good guys off the bench keep it going, better guys make things happen.  Tony makes things happen.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think just by how many opportunities he gets, it has to be Rasheed. He may not have lived up to expectations, but he is pretty important and a lot of what he does has a true impact on the game.

I'd say TA...that Christmas Day game he really stepped up. He has been rather steady...Not Perfect, but steady.

And he played a Great game against LA in Boston.even got a block on Kobe.

I'm just glad we have a semblance of a bench now that everyone's back.

Luckily with the bench it's not about what they've done but what they'll do in the playoffs. And that's especially true when 2 of the guys have been hurt, 2 are newcomers, and 1 is Rasheed Wallace. It looks like they're starting to hit their stride.

Also, who cares that Tony's been the "best" so far. Yeah, I guess he's played well by his standards but I'm still very giddy that I no longer have to deal with watching him. The 10 who are playing right now should be the guys getting time in the playoffs. Tony still shouldn't be trusted in big games, and if Marquis continues to play like he has these past 2 games then Tony won't be needed.

It's hard to argue against TA. Most of the other guys have been consistent but consistently very average. TA has been good for the most part and average at times.

Quis really hasn't done anything bad but he really hasn't done too many good things. It's like the repeated argument of Scal how "they do all the little things" but when you see 2 assists 1 rebound and 6 points in the box score there are only a certain amount of "little things" that guy can be doing. To me Quis has seemed like he is a mid season pick up. What I mean by that is that he still doesn't seem comfortable after playing the whole year with us. He is the one guy on the bench that seems to defer too much and doesn't realize that we need him to be big off the bench. I will give him credit though, over the last few games he seems more aggressive and offensively and thats what we are going to need from him.

How can you not say Tony Allen?  I wish he could still get some minutes purely for his defense and intensity which our bench is sorely lacking.  Also his scoring is more consistent than Rasheed and Marquis.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Glen Davis all season long.

would agree. the celtics bench has been inconsistent and injured. no one guy has been consistently good off the bench.

but of that group, big baby has probably been the best. wallace has better numbers and has played more minutes, but his shooting and rebounding have not been consistent.

next year, it may be robinson.

is it possible for the thread creator to make a poll for this? that would be nice.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
