It looks like the Pick 2 Draft has pretty much petered off and ended but I must say I enjoyed myself tremendously and think another draft like this might be a fun exercise

So here what I propose, we have another draft based on basketball history

30 teams

30 GMs

Snake draft

But with the pool of players that we can chose from being one of two era's

Now maybe eventually we do two drafts but we can vote on which draft we want to do or have sign ups from each draft and whichever draft fills up first is the draft we do

The drafts eras will be for any player that played in the 1970's or 1980's, or any player that played even one NBA or ABA game from opening day 1970 through to the 1989 playoffs and the other will be for any player that played in the NBA during the 1990's and 2000's or if they played in one NBA game from opening day 1990 through to the 2009 playoffs

I would need a commissioner for this exercise though I guess I could be it though my guessing here is that mod abilities might make it easier for them to be a commissioner. I have no problem being a commissioner if I am also allowed a team.

And in absence of voting playoffs and all the drama that I guess happened around here last summer if we could get a 3 or 5 panel judging group together that doesn't participate in the draft but could vote on a few awards for when the draft is done, that could be cool though I am not married to that idea

If you would like to participate just post in this thread that you would like to be either:

1.) A team owner in the 70's-80's Draft
2.) A team owner in the 90's-00's Draft
3.) A commissioner for the 70's-80's Draft
4.) A commissioner for the 80's-90's Draft
5.) A panelist to judge either draft

No drafts for me right now; I'd prefer if there were spaced out more over the year, rather than essentially back-to-back.  It's too much work and too much of a time commitment, otherwise.

I definitively do like the potential of a "best ever" type of draft (although I'd probably open up the pool of players to every NBA / ABA player.  It just feels wrong to do a historical draft and not get a chance to draft Russell and Cousy.)

Best of luck.  I'll be interested to see what the results are.

I'd have no problem being a panelist.

If we were to do a "Best Ever" draft down the road, I'd probably be down with that too.  '46-present day.

Depending upon how the judging is structured, I'd be happy to be a panelist.  The only thing I'd caution is that the Commish keep the competitiveness of the draft down, so that panelists aren't attacked for not supporting a certain team.  People tend to take any sort of "judging" personally.

I'm drafted out right now.

Gimme a few weeks and I'd do it though.

Thanks Roy for the advice

Yeah I like the way this last draft went without the competitive edge and given that we would be drafting Hall of Famers and All-Stars I'm not so sure how anyone should be doing any major chest thumping in this exercise but, I am sure it will happen

It looks like I might have to be commish so I will keep all that toned down and let people know that any decisions reached by the panel when all is said and done are objective opinions by a group and that just because they reached a decision on one team doesn't mean that that is a slight on any other

Any input from you regarding doing this is really gracious

Thank you

I don't want to steal your thunder, Plamb, and if this gets off the ground, perfect.  If the interest isn't there, though, the staff talked, and decided that this is a realistic schedule for the various types of fantasy games:

* Celticsblog draft:  Around Labor Day, coming into the pre-season

* Pick 2 draft:  Around the all-star break

* Historic draft:  After the season, leading up to the NBA draft

We think that that schedule would probably give the best balance, especially due to lulls in the schedule, etc.

The idea would be to do the CB Draft and the Pick 2 Draft on an annual basis.  The Historic Draft could also be done annually, but it could be varied, i.e., one year it's All-Time, another it's 70s-80s, etc., etc.

Again, those are just our thoughts.  If this can be started on a grass roots basis now, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.  I just know that for me personally, as well as many staff members, we need a breather.
