The problem with trading for Tyrus Thomas is that to make the trade worth while your would need to resin him this off season

The money the Celtics would have used to resign him I believe is earmarked already for a Kendrick Perkins extension, which probably will need to be addressed this off season, and a resigning of Ray Allen

Just my belief on the matter and why I think Danny wouldn't do it

I just think Danny's working budget is going to be shrinking dramatically over the next couple years and he wouldn't look at Thomas as someone he would invest in long term when he could get someone like him at a cost controlled dollar amount in the draft

Larry Sanders comes to mind

I don't agree. I think expiring contracts plus a pick would have been well worth getting Ty for the remainder of the season with just the possibility of re-signing him.

This team has holes that NEEDED to be addressed.
Well then he could have been refused by the Bulls

Right now the Bulls look like a very possible first rould opponent for us and maybe the last thing Chicago management would have wanted was for Thomas to beat them in a playoff series
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

CHI could also be bumped out of the playoffs all together by CHA, though.

I just think it was not a move Danny was angling for given what was given up to get him and that is frustrating to me  given how big of a need it was/is...

Good point about facing him in the playoffs. The other less attractive addition to a Thomas deal may have been Salmons instead of Hinrich. The Bulls pretty much gave him away to the Bucks. I would not have blamed Danny if he held back a little before taking that one on either.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Thomas and Baby reunited, that would be a lot of fun  :-\

I hope they send fat boy packing this summer...  I've had enough of his game.  Sure, he brings some nice things, but I think he has just enough trade value that Danny could get at least something of importance back for this team.

Ironically, the Bucks are rolling as the hottest team in the league since trading for Salmons, thery are what 8-2 the last 10 games and have not lost since the trade deadline.

Meanwhile the C's continue to slumber and we are limping all the way to the playoffs and personally, I would have thought the Salmons/Ty Thomas for Ray Allen would have been an ok deal as we get extremely athletic PF and I would have thought Salmons and Ray trade was a Wash anyways. Salmons is ave better points pr game than Allen, he is bigger and younger ...the only thing going for Ray is his reputation of being an 8 time allstar..but he ain't headed there anymore. Danny should have really looked into dealing with the Bulls...well its all in hindsight now and we are toast this yr anyways..Sigh!!!

I too wish we would have acquired Ty Thomas.  He's still a possibility in the offseason though.  MLE would probably be enough to fetch him.

One or both of Big Baby and Sheed need to be replaced next season.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Even with all the protection, the pick is better then the Celtics can offer.
