Everyone pretty much agrees that Nate will add value as a backup point guard - he is capable of bringing the ball up, defending the position and knocking down open shots.

I think he might be a major asset in end-game scenarios, when we have a lead and the offense is sputtering. He scores with solid efficiency (55% True Shooting) and knocks down his free throws (78%). Plus, his ability to space the floor will help open things up for Pierce.

I don't  believe that Nate can be a complete closer for us like Kobe, LeBron, and Carmelo are for their teams but I do agree with every thing you just said.

I he cappable of playing defense? 

He has never shown the effort.

And name the last time a 5'8 guy was a good defender in the NBA.  (and remember, there is a difference between a high steal rate and good defense)

I agree completely with what you have said wdleehi but remember  he has never played on a defensive oriented team like the C's and people didn't think of Ray and Paul as defensive players before they went to the C's and they're defense has really improved from earlier in their careers.

well if he was, i doubt the celtics would have picked him for house and a few bench warmers.

still, i think robinson will help the second unit offense, which is uncertain at best best.

as for defense, i think given his physical abilities that defense is simply a choice for him. he can play it if he wishes to do so.

Alot of Celtics have been quoted as saying Nate is a good on ball defender. Ray actually called him great. If he doesnt defend or at least try, he will be benched here. I am actually excited about the possibility of a truly disruptive point guard being on the court at all times.

Haha that is true but he can knock down shots and maybe he'll surpise us and be able knock down timely shots in the clutch for us. 

We need someone to because Pierce hasn't been getting it done lately and Ray hasn't gotten the opportunity other than the Laker game, still have all the faith in the world in Pierce and Ray in the clutch and he got fouled last night.

I like the Nate pick up. The guy has a chip on his shoulder. He's a little goon like Fisher. If anyone messes with his team he'll give the cheap shot. He's a pest on defense and offense. A guy that small shouldn't be so tough but he is built like a running back. I think even at 5'8" he brings toughness and an edge. He may well be on the court at the end of games on offense just to pull defenders away from PP and Allen. He also can make foul shots at the end of games. I think this will work. I can't see Nate gripping at teammates with PP, Allen and especially KG around. We needed swagger, Nate= Swagger. for good or bad this guy is a cocky little dude. I never liked him when he played for the Knicks and I only really dislike players who hurt our team. Nate can hurt you in a lot of ways. A very good pickup.

  I think he'll be used more to goose the offense when it sputters in the middle of the game.

They could conceivably do an offense/defense lineup at ends of games, and if they have the last shot at quarters they could put Nate in.  As Collins repeated said last night, when you have Perk and Rondo in at the same time, it's like going 3 on 5 offensively, and for strictly offensive possessions we could have Nate and Sheed in.

Well the only way to find out is to for us and the Lakers to get to the Finals :)

Rondo's jumper has improved, but I wouldn't exactly call it consistent.  Nate would be a better option in a last possession scenario.
