PP said he was the best bball player in the world after the C's won # !7. It is kinda hard to tell when he's joking..........

Yeah maybe...I just feel that out all things that came out of the competition, we should just be happy that he won. JMO.

I had so much fun watching that. I think he was  only half joking, but hell, that''s good. It means he's got balls. Also, he won, so you can't really be salty about it.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I enjoyed watching him, but I don't think he'd even win a 3 point contest within the team.  I feel as if he'd come in 3rd behind House and Ray Ray.

Not this year.  I think that's been pretty obvious.

Don't care if he was joking, dude won the three point competition, he can't talk all he wants.

Congrats to Paul.. I was so happy for him when he won. Now let's see him go out there and do it again, next year.

He also has a point, "if i just stood out there and shot them a could be one of the best, but i like being more of a complete scorer"

He was definitely joking.  Check out the video from Celtics.com.

That's partly why I thought I was joking this time. In the airport on the way to All-Star weekend he put himself in a wheelchair to poke at the people who said he was faking an injury back in 08... now he's poking at the people who were up in arms about the reigning Finals MVP calling himself the best in the world.

But he has been saying this stuff about being the greatest shooter for a while, starting when he was campaigning to be put in the contest and announced that Ray was a great one, right after him-- very tongue in cheek.

There's probably some truth/arrogance to what he's saying, yeah, though a pro athlete who DOESN'T feel that way is (a) rare and (b) not all that likely to be dominant.

Someone should have mentioned to him that Rondo hit a higher percentage of three-pointers than Pierce did last night...

IMO, he only smiled because he didn't want to appear obnoxious, so he half pretended to be joking. But you know that deep down he believes it, and it's not such an outrageous claim. He's always been underrated, and he really is 'one of the best' of all time.

Maybe not one of the five or ten best, but top 50?  Even the 50th best shooter of all time wouldn't be too shabby.

He was clearly joking, but doesn't winning the 3 point shoot out mean that you're the currently the best shooter in the NBA?  Especially if you're tops in 3pt FG% too?  Which was at one point this season?

Pierce has quietly become extremely good at shooting three pointers. If he can mentally get there, he could really extend his career by adopting a defensive/spot up three role player role.

Thing is, he's always been the best player on his team, until now. So he's never really been called upon to knock down open spot up threes; he's always had to create the shot first. But man, he really is deadeye, one of the best in the league when left open for a spot up.

I don't think he was joking.  I remember reading about a conversation between Pierce and Ainge where Paul said he is a great shooter and one of the best in the league.  Ainge had to tell him that great shooters don't shoot 42% from the field, as Paul did the previous year.
