I think to get Iggy you got to take Brand.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykybm3n

Picks will have to be included, but I think this is a trade that makes everyone happy. :)
That makes the Bulls very sad since they are hoping to create cap room for next year.

The Bulls need a low post player and are hoping for Bosh or Amare. Tyrus, Hinrich, and Salmons are what they are willing to give up. I don't see it happening. Brand and a 1st rounder might be a nice consolation prize.

They also want cap space to try and convince Wade to "come home".

Do you see them giving up that chance on a bad contract with Brand?

I think their chance on Wade is small. Chicago attracts NBA FAs about as well as Boston. But you never know.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I don't think an inter-conference trade is realistic, although on paper it makes the Celtics a better team going forward.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I have been thinking about this deal for a while now because Iggy would be a great for this team. I would even add Sam because his length and athleticism would be useful. And let's face it, the only way to pry Iggy from the 76rs would be to take on Sam or Brand.  Unfortunately, when I did the math using figures from shamsports.com, things got a little dicey. According to the site, the payroll for this year is $84,045,132. If we traded Ray, Baby, and Giddens for Iggy and Sam (to keep as many expiring contracts for ourselves), our payroll still becomes inflated next year due to Rondo's raise. See below:
R. Rondo   9090909
A. I.           12345250
P. Pierce   21513521
K. G.      18832044
K. Perkins   4890208
R. Wallace   5322320
B. Walker   854389 (we keep him due to his small contract)
S. Dalembert   12912823
Total      85761464
Notice that we only have eight players and the payroll already exceeds this year's payroll. Assuming we have a late 1st (~ $950,000) and 2nd (~ $450,000) round pick, and three vet-minimum guys (~ 1,000,000 each) to reach a 13-player roster, the total payroll would be ~ $90,161,464. That is a lot of tax money next year for a team that doesn't look all that much better on paper.

yeah, that was my one concern - probably isn't going to happen with the CBA coming up (imagine if the tax number even went down, making the bill for overpayers even higher)

Just killed my hopes of getting Iggy. I thought it was a legit possibility. With those figures I no longer think it is.  :'(

I don't know about Dalembert, but just about any other trade involving Ray for Iggy would make me extremely happy. I would fully expect the 76ers to cut Ray loose and send him back, if their intent is solely to save money at this point. Also, it's not like the sixers will be in contention anytime soon, why would they really care if they are sending AI 2.0 to a team in the same conference?

Check this out:

Ray, Scal, and House

for

Iguodala and Brand

In a best case scenario, Ray gets cut and comes back.

I'm all for this trade...if we don't get younger and more athletic at the wing position and quick, we will have no chance against Atlanta and Cleveland in the playoffs. A Rondo/Iguodala backcourt would be terrifying for the rest of the league. Alleyoop baby!

Rondo/Daniels/FA PG?
Iguodala/Tony Allen
Pierce/Ray Allen/Walker
KG/Brand/Davis
Perk/Sheed/Williams

No way we have the money to pay Iggy and Brand going forward.

Any semi-reasonable trade involving Ray and Iggy would be fantastic in my opinion.  We desperately need that kind of young, athletic, defensive presence, even if his shooting isn't as good as Ray's.

Rondo + Iggy + Perk isn't the greatest core to build around for the future, but it isn't bad, either.

How about this, plus we can throw in a first rounder:

Can you list the essential players? I can't open the trade machine at work. Thanks.

Ray Allen + Kendrick Perkins for Andre Iguodala + Samuel Dalembert

Including Perk would reduce a lot of the financial burdens for next season.

don't worry about taking on additional salary.  Do Ray for Iggy and Brand.   I know what you're thinkin... that's way too much to be paying Brand (or Dalembert) to come off the bench.   But you're neglecting to factor in the possibility KG retires by the end of the year.

I'm a fan of a Ray for Iggy and Brand trade too.  Would do it in a hot second.

There is a lot of duplication with Perk + KG + Sheed + either Dalembert or Brand.

There's only so many minutes to go around. Whoever the fourth big is, that player will be making minimal contributions relative to his salary.
  • If the Celtics were to take on Dalembert, I think they should part ways with Kendrick Perkins in the trade. Allow Dalembert to be the starting center and give him 30-33 minutes a night.
  • If the Celtics were to take on Brand, I think they should sent Rasheed to Phily. Give Brand that sixth man role. Make him the primary scorer off the bench and have House + Daniels play off of him.

KG won't retire this year.

Yup.
R. R.             $9,090,909.00
A. I.           $12,345,250.00
P. Pierce      $21,513,521.00
K. G.         $18,832,044.00
Sheed            $5,322,320.00
Baby            $3,000,004.00
B. Walker         $854,389.00
S. Daly           $12,912,823.00
Late 1st      $950,000.00
Late 2nd      $450,000.00
Vet min            $1,000,000.00
Vet min            $1,000,000.00
Vet min            $1,000,000.00

Total        $88,271,260.00

That is approximately 3-4 million above the C's salary now. If Pierce was willing to opt-out and take less money in exchange for extended years the C's might be able to get the salery even lower than this year's salary (or replace one of those vet min guys with Ray at the mid-level, which would be my fantasy).

My trade idea was:

Ray + Scal + TA

for

Iggy + Willie Green + Kapono

I suppose if we had to include Perk and take back Dalembert that wouldn't be so bad.  Dalembert can't score as well as Perk, but he rebounds better, and though he's not necessarily the same physical post defender, he's a pretty good blocker.

Philadelphia general manager Ed Stefanski refused to discuss specific trade rumors on Thursday, but he did reveal that no one on the team's roster should be considered off limits.

"I won't talk about trades or rumors," Stefanski said. "I will say that we're very active in talking to teams throughout the league, and we're listening to any option to improve the basketball team. When I was in Jersey, and here, I don't think there are untouchables.

"Anyone can get traded in this league, and we've seen it over and over. But we don't trade a player unless we get value back, basketball-wise."

76ers swingman Andre Iguodala has been mentioned in trade rumors, mainly in a possible deal with the Rockets that would bring Tracy McGrady to Philadelphia.

In addition, reports have indicated that the Cavaliers and 76ers are discussing Iguodala as well.

"You get asked about it by family and friends," he said.

" 'What's going on?' 'What can happen?' There are a lot of different scenarios that can come up, and 95 percent of them are just rumors. I think the most important thing is, wherever you are at that moment in time, you'd better give 100 percent of your time and focus on the job you have."

Perk to Dalembert is to much of a step back in terms of defense.  Sure, he will get the blocks, but he isn't in Perks class in terms of low post defense.

Would not trade both Ray and Perk for AI2 and Dalembert.
