Doc is on the record about how he feels that it's more important to get back rather than crash the OBoards. "if your a big your more than welcome to go at it, but if your a guard or wing just get back"

Good teams generally do both things. In any case, how does that excuse the poor numbers in our own board?

Though not bolded, I think it does bear mentioning that Ainge does distinguish between Red not breaking up a team that was clearly done and this team that he clearly thinks can still win it all.

I focused on this, too, but I was a bit confused.  I wondered, though, what a team needs to have "a shot at the title", and what he means by being a "good" team but not a "great" one, and the difference between all those things (being good, great, and having a shot).

I thought it was pretty wild, though, that Ainge 2010 claims the Celtics 1988 knew the didn't even have a shot at the title?  Bird had surgery, but that Reggie Lewis guy did pretty well in his coming out party, and they made the playoffs that year, and for the next two as well, getting 52 wins the next year.

So, Danny would break up a perennial playoff team?

While I see his point,

he walked the line on the Ray issue, If he was considering it he wouldn't come out and say it... he would say pretty much exactly what he just said.

And if there was no way he would trade Ray he would have said the same thing.

So I don't think we can put to bed any rumors involving Ray.

After 86-87, Kevin would never be the same.  Red knew this.  Walton was done and they weren't drafting well (Reggie the exception).  The Lakers had shown their superiority, and there was no way that team was going to win.

If Danny knows KG will never be the same, he shouldn't make the same mistake Red did.  He hung on to Kevin too long.

I can't help but wonder if Red Auerbach didn't break up the first Big Three because, like Danny does now, he too thought his team just had to get healthy and they would win it all again in 1989

I can't help wonder if Danny at a young age in 1988 knew the Big Three were done and should have been traded than does Rondo and Perkins feel the same way about the current Big Three

In 1988 Danny knew the Big Three were done but McHale was 31, Larry was 32, and Parish was 35

In 2010 Danny thinks his Big Three aren't done but Pierce is 32, KG is 33 and Ray is 34 and KG has missed chunks of three straight seasons due to injury and Allen's game has shown signs of age

Could Danny be falling into the same trap Auerbach did

Well, we are right at the league avg when it comes to DRB% at 73.3%. For reference, we were 8th in 07-08, and 3rd last year. I'll disagree with Doc and say we definitely need more improvement in that area.

We are terrible at getting o rebounds. We were about 18th or 19th in 07-08 and actually 8th last year. This year we are 28th in the league in offensive rebounding percentage. Just terrible.

On the other hand we're first in transition defense. Go figure.

You have to be careful when you listen to Danny. Yeah, he says Allen is a good player, and he says he thinks he'll be able to contribute for another four years. But he also says Ray understands that it's a business and that anyone can be traded. In other words, he's not giving any real information.

In my opinion, Danny is talking around (like any GM does), and if he finds a deal strongly in the Celtics favor, he's going to pull the trigger.
He's also talking Ray's value up!

What can explain it most is our main bench "big" shoots threes (Sheed) and isn't in position for the board.  Leon was always down low and was able to rebound most of his own misses.  Does it mean Leon is better than Sheed because he had more offensive boards?  No.
