Good discussion.

Would it be safe to say that KG is to us what Scotty Pippen was to Michael and Chicago back in the day? Or more?

I posted a few days ago in this thread, and I would have to say that KG has "It"......he brings that certain element to a team that places them over the top..makes a team better. That's my best definition.

Now Gasol has "It" as well..he certainly makes LA better, but I don't believe to the same capacity as Garnett.

Now in fairness (Gulp) to LA, Gasol was impressive against Dwight in the Finals last year..Dwight was shredding Bynum, but didn't do quite as well against Gasol. He certainly placed LA over the top last year - against Orlando (Not Boston).

But - Gasol couldn't do it in 2007-2008. And won't do it this year either once LA and Boston meet again in June. I just think the collective Hunger (Because of KG's Intensity) of the Celtics Team will be too much for LA.

You can add the Magic without Howard to that also.

I think KG is as important to the Celtics as Bird, Magic and Jordan were to their teams and as improtant as Kobe, LeBron, Duncan and Howard are currently to their teams.

He's the fruit that makes the juice baby.

He may not put up the numbers those guys did/do, but it has nothing to do with numbers.

The value of Players like the ones mentioned above can't be determined simply by looking at the numbers.

The numbers are a simply one chapter of a great story.
Your point is good but I think you are overstating it a little bit.  Subtract Lebron or Duncan and you are left with lottery teams.  Subtract KG and we'd still win a round in the playoffs.

I actually don't agree with this. With no KG, we'd probably get a lower seed than 4th and then lose to the Hawks, Magic, or Cavs.

Anyone who mentions Kevin Garnett and Pau Gasol in the same sentence simply does not get KG!

I see what you're saying Moiso, re KG vs LeBron, Kobe or Duncan in his prime. For dsake of argument though, take KG of the Minny teams for his first 12 or so seasons, they becoem lottery dwellers. Taking this comprehensive view, KG then = Kobe or LeBron in the sense you're talking about.

Today, doesn't produce quite the numbers he used to or that Kobe & LeBron currently do, but his impact remains the same mentally which is 80% of the fight IMHO.

He's still the apple of the Fruit of the loom Logo.

He makes the magic happen.

Last year we barely survived Chicago in the first round before bowing out to orlando in the second...

PS; TP to Feckless for stating anyone who compares Gasol to KG doesn't understand KG! I agree.

That's like when Lakers fans say you may have lost KG in 2009-2010 championship run but we were without Bynum in 2008-2009. What? Hello, is anyone home? Are the lights on?

I actually like Gasol. Living in LA, he's one of the few Lakers I can actually stomach. Comes across as a someehwat humble decent guy, rather than snide and arrogant.

But saying Gasol - KG is like saying Antonio Daniels = Dennis Johnson. Does not compute to me, IMHO.
