I would be able to sleep fine if we traded Shelden and House for Robinson.

This makes the most sense to me.

You can't combine exceptions to form one greater exception.

I believe you can, however, include an exception in a trade that includes multiple players, if one of the players being acquired fits within that exception.

http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q71

So what?  It would be the Celtics who needed an exception (a big one) since Nate is the BYC player, yes?

Another thing to remember is that we would not have Bird Rights on Nate.  He is playing on a 1 year deal, which means if he gets traded, he loses his Bird Rights.  This also means he has veto power on any trade (though I doubt he would invoke it).

I'm not sure if this is right.  Since he didn't change teams, we would have his Bird rights, I believe.  So long as he doesn't change teams through free agency, his Bird rights should remain.

(You've confused me, though, so I'll think about it some.)

No.  It's a weird rule where when they sign that one year contract, they only keep their Bird rights with the team that sign them.

Remember when Dallas tried to make a big trade and Devin George (I believe) blocked it so he wouldn't lose his Birds rights.

Was that the reason that George vetoed that?

Larry Coon doesn't mention any restriction:

Found the pertinent information, and they are right:

http://www.nbpa.com/cba_articles/article-VII_8.php

"(b) A player with a one-year Contract (excluding any Option Year) who would be a Qualifying Veteran Free Agent or an Early Qualifying Veteran Free Agent upon completing the playing services called for under his Contract cannot be traded without the player’s consent. Should the player consent and be traded, then, for purposes of determining whether the player is a Qualifying Veteran Free Agent, Early Qualifying Veteran Free Agent or Non-Qualifying Veteran Free Agent at the conclusion of the Contract or any subsequent Contract between the player and the assignee Team, the player shall be considered as having changed Teams by means of signing a Contract with the assignee Team as a Free Agent (and not by means of trade)."

If the Celtics are taking back Jared Jeffries contract we need to get more than a one year rental of Nate Robinson.

Maybe we are trying to get get Duhon and Nate or Maybe Nate and Hughes.

All three are expiring contracts, Hughes would be a stretch to match with money wise but we could do a Nate and Duhon deal and have even more money oming off the books next year, but Hughes would be a lot lore money to free up,
L.A. Clippers
Derrick Rose Blake Griffin 4.11 5.3 5.15 6.11 7.15 8.11 9.15 10.11 11.15 12.11 13.15

Yup, that is exactly what happened with George.  His agent felt that he could make more money by keeping his bird rights.

Bird Rights only work if a player has just finished a contract for at least 3 years, or played 3 years in a row for the same team.  In this case, he would be neither.

No.  The Knicks trade the exception for JR so Celtics don't take back to much money.

I agree, that Jared Jeffires contract makes things difficult when re-signing Ray Allen + spending the MLE.

I don't think that complication is worth a rental of Nate Robinson.

Since minimum salaries can be used to offset some of the BYC a trade that works is Boston sending Tony Allen and Shelden Williams and New York sending Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry

How do you have so many TP's?

Hughes is a bigger expiring contract though. Like double the money.

Toney Douglas is really interesting. Very good defender. He played the point very well in summer league, good composure + decision making + passing, but has struggled somewhat in the NBA but I think that's an area which he could improve on given time. Good shooter in college but again has struggled so far this year.

I think he has the potential to become one of those borderline starter/very good backup type point guards. In large part due to his defense. A very interesting prospect. A player for future seasons rather this one though.

I don't think the Knicks would be willing to include him as a throw in. There would be need to be another asset (an additional first round pick) added to even up the scales.
