How on earth does this corpse get 800,000 All Star votes??? He shouldn't even be on the ballot. That'd be great if this was 5-10 years ago, but it's not. Players such as our own Celtic backcourt, Joe Johnson, Mike Bibby, Gilbert Arenas, etc. should be lightyears ahead of this has-been in votes.

Why do I post this? Simply to state that anyone who reads this and cares about the quality of the NBA (yes, the All-Star game is part of the total picture) should definitely be voting to decide who the All-Stars will be. It'd be nice to actually have a guard who still plays A+ basketball in the starting 5.

Seriously, how is this dude still on the ballot? Wow.

NBA All Star voting is as biased as a political rally. It's big city based around the world, it's a waste of time, the players should vote, they're the only ones that know. Most NBA half-fans are idiots, to put it bluntly. The only free pass I'd give AI is cause of his toughness, that aside, it's pathetic.

Sad that the second leading vote getter at guard is at best, the 2nd best player on a terrible team.

Yeah, at least Vince Carter is still contributing to a Championship calibur team...I'd much rather see him there than AI.

Then again, I'd rather see Rondo there over both of them  :-\

As pathetic as it is, the All-Star game is really for the fans, and the fans are by and large pretty stupid. 

Sadly All-Star voting is rather reminiscent of political voting....

All-Star voting very rarely has anything to do with who really DESERVES to be there ... it's a popularity contest, plain and simple, and in that respect, AI has as much right to be there as anyone. It's not fair, it's not based on basketball skills, it's not related to a player's value to his team or the NBA in general, and it's not the way people like us, (who have a true knowledge of the game and it's players), would like it to be, but that's the reality of it, and there's really no way to change it. In other words, get used to it. ;)

It's obviously a glorified pickup game where the NBA can showcase it's favourites.
Remember 2008 AS game in NO when Ray went for like 41 and absolutely took over the game after being chucked in due to injuries and then BronBron was handed MVP.. just crap.

having said that (curb anyone?) i'll still be watching the game - it's a bit of fun

I'd rather have the coaches pick the entire rosters.  The players are biased towards certain players and the fans are just crazy in who they vote for.  You can say that the game is for the fans, but the fans aren't going to watch the game based only on one or two crazy selections.  And to say the game is for the fans is not true anyway.  The game is to promote the NBA, pure and simple.  In my opinion, getting the highest quality players out there is the best way to promote the NBA.  Having Yi or a washed up AI or TMac out there does not give the NBA its best product out there to promote the league.

  I guess it's interesting for one thing: has an All Star Starter ever been actually not playing in the league? I mean, not because of injury - that happens all the time - or the Magic Johnson thing from years ago-  but because no team wanted him? I don't think that's ever happened, but it almost did here. He's got to be the least desired all star starter in history.

  This reminds me of when Craig Hodges took part in the 3 point shotout wearing a jersey that just said "NBA" even though no NBA wanted him. But this is way worse. Another sad but fitting footnote to AI's career, i think.

If the fans voted Barack Obama as the starting 2 guard, does he play?  Its for the fans!  How about Bob Cousy?

I think AI should reject getting voted in, like Shaq told that he would do if he got voted in and if he didn't feel he deserved it, but then again AI is not Shaq. T-Mac maybee has a lot left in his tank and still has big time game, so I'm 50:50 with him being there.

this game is for just show, for many years the players who played in this game, are the players who can bring the show, not the players who deserve it, get over it. This game is not for the ones who deserve the spot with their play, but for those who can bring the show
