Doc's vote of no confidence was very telling.  If he's never going to play them, then they are a waste of space.

If we can get any live body (that Doc would play) for them and Scal's salary if necessary (without sacrificing too much future cap space) I say do it.

The window is open for this year but I don't know about next year.  The time to win is now.

Of course there's a very real chance that Danny can't get anyone better than Scal on the market - which is pretty sad.

As I said in another thread Jeff, we probably aren't the only ones who know just how bad these guys are. Trading them for someone, anyone, who could help is not going to be a viable option if the rest of the league looks at Hudson, Walker and Giddens the way we do with Mark Blount, Patrick O'Bryant and Marcus Banks. We're probably going to have to include someone of value, a rotation player, in order to get someone of value back.

not if it is a cash dump

someone out there is going to want to free up a few million this offseason (see the Jason Hart trade to the Suns)

all I want is a 10th man with a year or two on his contract in exchange for our expiring contracts

I think it is going to happen.  But I think players like Scali and TA are going to be connected with such a move.

I also think it will be later this season when teams are looking for such a salary dump.

I don't know, fellas.  No team's 13-15 are very good.  Heck, most teams are hiding roster spots 8, 9+.

Having guys like Scal and TA who know the system and play hard on D holding down the eleveth and twelve roster spots seems just fine to me.  Especially when you've got the best 9-man rotation in the league.

Kinda what I meant.

Also, I went scanning the teams in financial straights or looking to lower debt for salary cap space. For the $3 million or so of salary the three youngsters have, there's a not a whole heck of a lot out there from teams like NY, NJ, PHX, NO, MIN, WAS, MEM, CHA, GS, SAC that they would be willing to trade for our youngsters.

Add an Eddie, Tony, Scal, Sheldon, Daniels or Baby to the mix and some interesting names come into play as the market in the $5-$8 million area for a trade of contracts is much better.

I really hope we can do exactly what you're proposing. I've found that one stops missing the "prodigies" as soon as the team gets a useful new player (i.e. dropping Pruitt, picking up Marquis).
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

They aren't kids. Bill is 22, JR is 24, and Lester is 25.

I wonder if Philly would make a trade along the lines of Kapono, Green and Smith for Scal, Eddie, Walker and Giddens. Or some version of this with less players.

In this version Philly dumps $15 million in future salry and get back all expiring contracts. Eddie is a shooting combo guard scorer, much like Green. Kapono is a waste of life on the defensive end against SFs, much like Scal. And Smith has potential but who knows how much, much like Walker and Giddens.

It's not a tremendous upgrade over what we have but it's definitely an upgrade for us, though I hate taking on the salary for next year for such mediocre bench players. But is a Scal, Eddie and the Kids package really going to bring back anyone better than something like this?

Please see my other topic "Ramon Sessions?" When you say "I think it is going to happen...", is getting Sessions & Gomes likely, possible, etc.?

Session and Gomes are much more valuable then what we have to offer... I like the idea of trading J.R, Lester, and Walker, especially if they arent going to play...But what we would ge tin return are most likely players of similar value who Doc would just bury on the bench anyways... When we are healthy, Id like to see a T.A., Scal, and one or two young package for something significant for our bench. The expirings someone will take definitely.

So you're looking to trade for someone who won't even get into most of our playoff games?
