Marc Gasol was a late bloomer.
think about all the first rounders taken purely on potential. teams routinely wager high pics on kids that hopefully "bloom" to fill their potential.
i cannot figure out how this guy slips, unless its a some deep Laker conspiracy.
Marc Gasol had no discernible potential. He was buried at the end of the bench in Barcelona when he was drafted. He was a bum, pure and simple and I know nobody who had a different opinion at that time. There are worse cases, some guys weren't even drafted.
That is not true. Draft Express had some good accolades about him before he was drafted. I recall several on this board saying we should consider drafting him. He had a pretty good rep, just that he was outshined by his big bro.
Marc reminds me of Bogut. Both are skilled 5s, and are improving every year. The fact that Bogut was the number 1 pick shows how far Gasol has come in the last year.
I'm sure it was true: I was seeing most of the homes games of his team in the stands. DX has some good things to say about most players. Here's what they said about Marc's potential:
Marc doesn’t impress with his potential; he’s a below average athlete by NBA standards, lacking quickness and leaping ability.
Bogut is a far better player than Gasol, IMO. The defence makes all the difference. Bogut should make an All-D team.
ETA: But I agree Gasol is a good player and has been improving a lot, overall at a more impressive rate than Bogut, IMO. The year before he joined the league he was already the 2nd best big man in Spain and a top-5 in Europe, I think and he keeps improving.
