He has no value to his team aside from his expiring contract.

Tony is better than what he has shown so far. Just give him time. I would rather play him that play scal. just give him time; not that scal will have any playing time when and if Big baby and Daniels come back. A lot of now playing bench players are not going to have any playing time come April. Thats the way the cookie crumbles - as they used to say when I was young.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I much rather Scali in there.  With Scali, you know what to expect.  Consistently good team defense.

With TA, you might get a show, but most likely you are watching him help the other team.

Haven't we all been hearing the "he'll be fine just give him some time" excuse for Tony's poor plays and inconsistencies since he hurt himself in early 2007?

That's going on 3 years ago. Sorry, Rey, I'm not willing to give him any more time. Produce, and produce consistently well, game in and game out, or sit at the end of the bench awaiting garbage time and a trade or buyout because coaching his inconsistencies must be a maddening thing for Doc.

I don't know that I'd characterize it as good. Against most NBA players Scalabrine is a liability to have on the floor in your defensive rotation.

He will properly execute those rotations to the best of his ability, but that isn't good enough far too often for me to be comfortable with him getting more than 10 minutes in any given game.

As for Tony.....*sigh*....

Regarding Scal, I think it depends upon how he's used.  In the past, I think against true power forwards (Amare, Big Al, Garnett in the past, etc.) his defense has been excellent.  Against small forwards, he struggles.  Unfortunately, our team is deeper at PF than it is at SF, so that's where Scal will see a lot of his minutes.

This season, Scal has struggled a bit more with Scal at PF, and there have been some negative effects of that.  Overall, though, I consider Scal an above-average defender.

Defensively, Scal has the ability to stay with people and disturb their jump shots with his length. This works better against jump-shooting PFs, because it's harder for them to drive on him.

At this point, we know quite well who he is. He won't be confused for a world beater, but is a serviceable NBA player. That's pretty much all there is to it.

I was thinking of him at the SF mainly, though against PFs with a post game he's also a liability. Doc doesn't put him in that position all that often though.

Interestingly enough Scalabrine for the past 3 years, as of 2008-2009 has been a net 0 on the adjusted +/- numbers. He's good on D and bad on offense. Makes sense given how the C's have used him.

We should keep a tally of good tony games and bad tony games. I'm thinking and hoping that the good ones will outweigh the bad ones. At least during his bad ones Doc can just Yank him right away and the good ones he can really help us at times and limit Pierce and Ray's minutes.
