In my opinion it has to be Kevin Garnett. I think he personifies what it is to be a Celtic. We were sorely missing him in last years playoff. What do you guys think?

All of them... seriously I can't pick one at least out out of KG, Pierce, and Rondo I can't pick one... Ray and Perk too... Without Ray everybody clogs the lane, without Perk everybody stays floats outside of the lane. The team is built perfectly.

Rondo.  He's not the best player, but there's by far the biggest gap in overall team performance between when he plays well and poorly.  If any other starter has a lousy game we can and do still blow people out; if Rondo is bad the whole game becomes a grind.  Also remember, part of being valuable is who comes in if you can't play.

I am just soooooo happy to see the 'Rondo Sux' threads going away. I was really getting sick of defending the guy. I love watching him a step ahead of everybody else. He is passing better than anybody in the NBA and his 'complete' game seems to be back. His game is again beautiful and effective.

Ubuntu!

Seriously we could argue how that maybe they could go deeper or get bounced earlier minus this guy or the other, but really if anyone of the starting 5 is missing, they're going not going to win it all.

Completely agree.  Ray is probably the most "expendable" guy in the starting 5 - then Perk.  We'd be in a tough spot without either of them, but I feel if we lost KG, Rondo or PP, we'd really really be up ship's creek - even though we did take Orlando to game 7 last year w/o KG.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
So far this season Pierce and Rondo is runner up. Pierce looks like he's 27 again. He's been great on both sides of the ball scoring and defending at a high level. He's the reason that we got out of that bad stretch of games with only 4 losses. He's managed to be a positive on the floor even when he has those off nights.

As for Rondo he's playing at an all-star level right now. He's been doing a great job setting guys up, and easing KG back into things. He's learning to play at a high level with more consistency and that's been a big part of our current streak.

I got to go with Pierce here. If KG were fully healthy then maybe him but for now it's Paul and here is why. This team is still capable of playing some very good defense and stopping oppsing teams from scoring. The thing is, when  our offense stinks it always seems to be Pierce who carries the team on his back. Rondo may soon be filling that void but for now it's still "The Truth" baby.

Every member of the starting lineup is vital.  Still, if I had to rank them, I'd go:

KG
Pierce
Rondo
Ray
Perk

Perk is only last because Rasheed is our most capable backup.  In terms of performance this year, Pierce has been the best, but KG's recent resurgence has coincided with our win streak.  I think KG is our most important player.

I think this becomes the age old debate on what does 'valuable' really mean. I look at Rajon, Pierce, and KG as all being about the same in terms of production, but the one player I think our team absolutely could not afford to lose at this point is Rajon. Who would our pg be, House, Hudson? KG is obviously awesome, but Rasheed is much less of a downgrade than whoever Rondo's backup is. Losing Pierce would also be tough, as I don't think there is another Pierce on our team- in either talent or 'soul', but I think we could scrape something together (this is assuming Daniels is back). I don't think we would have a chance at a championship without any of these three, but I really don't want to see this team run without a real pg...

I think it's Pierce. He's the only guy that would leave a championship hopeless if he got hurt. Yeah, obviously any of the starting 5 getting hurt reduces Boston's chances by a lot, but as long as Pierce is in the lineup there's always a small chance that he's able to put the team on his back and take it to the finals.

Paul Pierce, absolutely. Not only is he our leading scorer, but he is first in three-point shooting, second in free-throws, assists and minutes, and third in steals and rebounds. He has carried this club on his back for over ten years, (including the time since the KG and Ray acquisitions), has been the heart and soul of the franchise, was the MVP of the only championship we've had since 1986, and is the Captain and leader on and off the floor. As far as KG being more important I'll just say this: The Truth is the player that KG looks up to for leadership and guidance ... that pretty much says it all.

Right now....it's KG. But at any point for the rest of the season it could be any one of the starting five. For instance, up until 2 weeks ago it was Pierce. When KG cools off, it could be Rondo.

This team is so dependent upon all five starters it is very difficult to choose one and say definitively "He is our MVP." because really, they are all pretty indispensable for this team to win it all.
