I know it's early, but I wanted to see what people were thinking about Danny's off-season / early season moves.

I think I'd probably rank them in this order:

1) Signing Marquis Daniels -- for what he's earning, he's been a steal.

2) Signing Shelden Williams -- see above.  A very pleasant surprise, on a minimum contract.

3) Signing Rasheed Wallace.  He's out of shape and shoots too many threes, and has been very inconsistent.  That's why I have him ranked third, but in terms of impact, he could end up number one.

4) Re-signing Glen Davis.  Look, I know he acted like an idiot, but two years, $6 million is a good contract for somebody of BBD's talent level.  The guy frustrates me, but he's a pretty good player.

5) Drafting Lester Hudson.  I didn't expect anything with the 58th pick in the draft, but this kid has surprised me.  I doubt he's ever a difference maker or more than a fringe player, but he's performed better than expected.

6) Declining J.R. Giddens' option.  All the moves above this one are, in my opinion, positive ones.  This one is perfectly neutral, as I think it was an absolute no-brainer.  Drafting Giddens was a moderate mistake, but being smart enough to cut bait is smart.

7) Signing Rajon Rondo.  Before people complain, keep in mind that the poll is "to date".  So far, Rondo doesn't seem to have improved much from last year, and arguably, he may have regressed.  He's shown me very little to suggest that he's worthy of an $11 million per year contract.  I thought the deal was fair (if a bit high) at the time, but so far (i.e., "to date"), Rajon has underperformed.

If we re-visit these choices, I'm sure they'll change wildly by the end of the season.  At this point in time, though, that's how I see it.

Clearly 1.

2 was a good move as well.

I'd rather have signed McDyess instead of Wallace. Rasheed is old and it shows on defence and rebounding.

Davis contract is acceptable for a player of his quality.

Hudson actually made the roster, that alone makes him a decent pick.

Declining the option on Giddens was the obvious move.

Rondo will have to improve to justify his contract, but as long as he doesn't regress it won't be an albatross.

I think it was the Sheldon signing.

It didn't take Danny any kind of skill to sign Marquis, the kid wanted to come here.

Being able to sniff something useful out of Sheldon is the biggest kudos.

I know Daniels gets more minutes, but isn't Shelden's PER better, and at a cheaper cost? Arguably shouldn't Shelden, to date, be considered a better signing than Marquis Daniels?

To date, Marquis (1) and Shelden (1A) have been the most consistent pluses, IMO.

(2)Sheed (3)Rondo will pan out eventually, once the team gets out of this funk we are in. Sheed has been dominating when he is on, but frustrating when off. When dominating, he is easily (1). I give Rondo number 3 because even though his pts have not been much, his passing for most part has been superb. Once he gets both going, he will be a solid 3 IMO.

(4)Glen Davis will turn out to be a solid addition for us for the price we got him for. He just needs to play and be ready to adjust since Shelden is playing so well. For Glen/Shelden playing time I leave that to Doc. I think they can be best used to exploit other teams weaknesses.

Lester Hudson (5) has been good from what I have seen on my computer. I have yet to actually see him on TV, though. Maybe needs more practice and playing time?.

Overall good assessment in my opinion from Hobbs.

I'm putting the Shelden signing slightly ahead of the Daniels signing.

This guy was almost an afterthought when he was signed but once Baby went out, this guy has been able to step in and the things haven't missed a beat.  He's certainly exceeded my expectations (and I think the expectations of almost everyone).

Not in my mind; I don't base evaluations on PER.  Daniels gives the second unit a ball-handler, scorer, and defender that they don't otherwise have.  He provides vital rest for Pierce and/or Ray.

Shelden.

Daniels is a better bargain, but it was an obvious move. We just got lucky that he was willing to take a pay cut to play with us.

Shelden was a better example of evaluating talent.

I just had to vote Sheed even though I agree with all of the criticisms noted in Roy's original post.  I just think he'll have the biggest impact in our winning #18 if that happens.

I think the biggest impact will be Sheed, but you have to say the "craftiest" has been Sheldon.
Yup

Poor Glen with 0 votes. He lost his fanbase with his antics this summer. And now he lost his team after that altercation. He has a lot of making up to do.

C'mon, Roy, don't do me like this: Those are all good options, but I think they're all playing for second to 1A and 1B in my book: Not re-signing Mikki Moore and Stephon Marbury.
