So who says no (and why) to a swap of

Ray and Giddens

for

Dalembert and Iguodala

Philly is in bad financial trouble; they immediately save 5 million and up to 24 million next year. The C's don't have to worry about what to do at shooting guard this offseason, and in the short term they get a super athletic offensive player and decent shooter (a very good offensive 2-4 option, which is what Ray has become) and elite defender, someone who can and will guard Kobe/Wade/Lebron each night. Instantly improving an already top notch defense would more than make up for any offensive gap between Ray and Iggy (if one exists anymore). Dalembert becomes an emergency athletic shot blocker, and next year becomes our expiring contract in case any deals are to be had.

This offseason, Dalembert would be a 12 million dollar expiring deal to use in trades.

Philly says no. The contracts of Brand and Dalmbert are the really bad deals, those are the two they're going to try and move. They won't have to move Iggy to accomplish that.

Are Phily in a bad financial state?

I thought they just wanted to get rid of a players who don't figure into their plans anymore.

I keep hearing it's bad. And their attendance is very very bad.

True statements, they are last in the league in attendance YTD.  I am actually shocked that they only sell 56% of available tickets for their home games.  I will say though from my experience, Philly fans love Iggy, and would all but abandon the team if they were to trade him for financial flexibility.

I would not be at all surprised if we see Brand or Dalembert go for nothing but salary relief.

Iggy is probably off limits, and he is a terrible outside shooter. It would be hard putting him on the floor with Rondo - although the defense would be amazing...

Alternatively, Young is really interesting and plays the same position as Brand and Speights.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

I'll pass.

1. I'm scared to mess with this teams Chemistry

2. We need Rays shooting in the starting lineup.

3. He'd probably get in Pierces way.

4. Imagine a Rondo/Iguodala backcourt... no not the dunks the shooting.

5. He's basically already in his prime at 25/26 he's not getting much better than now.

6. Dalembert sucks

If we're trading Ray I want a better long term replacement for Ray than AI2. Otherwise, I'ld take my chances on letting Ray play out the string and trying to re-sign him over replacing him in a trade this year with Iguodala.

Now if Sactown gets desperate to dump a ton of salary and wants to send us Kevin Martin or New Orleans gets equally cheap and wants to send us Chris Paul, I'm all for trading Ray. Same would hold true of Mayo and Gay in Memphis, Granger and Dunleavy in Indiana, or Richardson, Dudley and Barbosa in Phoenix for Ray and Scal.

You would take Dunleavy despite the knee injury?

If we're going to trade way it should be a player that fits who's either a very clear upgrade, or an above average young player with room for improvement.

To get Granger? Are you kidding? Sure. I would take a flyer on Dunleavy's knee getting better for the chance to land Granger as a long term cornerstone to this franchise with Rondo and Perk.

I agree with everything else you said.  But how do you figure that at 25/26 he's already reached his peak?  I know his game relies heavily on athleticism.  But he is a really good player.

OH! My bad, I thought you meant you'd take one or the other.

After i typed that I kinda thought that's the way it might be interpreted. remember, Ray has a huge contract so anyone trading for him as salary relief is going to need to give up, at a minimum, $16 million in salary to, at most, $24 million. Dunleavy and Granger combined fit in nicely at around $20 million in combined salary.

Of course, the only way that I see Indiana doing this is if it is known before the deadline that Larry isn't returning and the Pacers decide to give their next GM some financial freedom by selling their longer term contracts for expirings.

They can't move Brand -- not that they're going to move Iggy to do so. Just saying Brand is currently untradable.

But I agree, they're not trading Iggy to move Delambert. They're just hoping SAC is dumb enough to take him.
