The thing is that the whole "not paying Posey" thing only worked out "well" because KG got hurt.  If he hadn't gotten hurt and we had lost a close 7 game series to the Lakers, people wouldn't be feeling that losing Posey was no big deal.  While I agree that we certainly don't need him now, I wasn't happy how the C's management risked one of the few years that Big Three have.

Or we could have beaten them again. It's not like we were destined to lose.

Posey was great now he's gone, he needed to get paid for the last time in his career... We don't need 30+ year old role players locked up long term.

Yes, Rasheed is taller and guard 4's and 5's better.  But lets see how many steals, charges drawn, defelections, etc Rasheed gets compared to Posey.  I'm sure you will see it your way, but I doubt I will see it the same way.  Posey seemed ready to give his life for a win.  Sheed... never.

Deflections?  Probably about the same - Sheed has very active hands from what I've seen.  You don't really want your big man flopping, because it's as likely to lead to a dunk as a turnover.  How about the blocks Sheed gets, or even the shots that he alters inside by his presence?  Posey doesn't do that.  How about the ability to play in the post?  Posey doesn't do that.  How about the sheer fact that he's a matchup nightmare as a big that stretches the defense out?  Posey could shoot that corner three, but drawing a 3 outside doesn't create as many problems as drawing a 5 to the perimeter.

I'll make conclusions about Sheed's desire to win once I see how he plays in the playoffs.  The Detroit team of last year was a dysfunctional disaster; most players would have quit on it.  Still, it amazes me how overhyped Posey remains.  He's a good player, don't get me wrong.  He filled a need on the championship team, and his departure left a hole that wasn't filled last  year.  He's nowhere near as good a player as Sheed, and I think I'd rather have Marquis as well (although that's certainly debatable).  Posey can play the 4, but Marquis can play the 1 or 2.  Posey can shoot from deep, but Quis can slash and finish around the basket.  Posey's marginally superior defense is offset by Quisy's ability to run the offense.  I really think that argument could go either way.

Granted, Posey is making more money than what we were willing to pay him that summer, but I'm not head over heels convinced that Daniels is better than Posey (probably not what you were saying).

Marquis does things that Posey may not be able to do as well (like create scoring opportunities off the dribble), but likewise, there are some things that Posey did that Daniels does not seem to be able to do.  And its primarily on the defensive end.

I really appreciated how hard nosed and physical Posey would get on defense.  It hasn't showed up yet, but I think we may find a need for this type of wing defender on our current team.

But with that said, I am happy we got Marquis.  He's a good piece to the puzzle.

I think Sheed more than makes up for the defense we got with Posey.  Sheed is the new Posey, only better.

I wonder if Posey is regretting his decision to join NO.
I don't think so, he wanted to get one last big contract. Plus its not like New Orleans is a lottery team...

Well, the sucked last year and they are not likely to win anything this year either.

Not overpaying Posey sure has played out well for the Celtics. I'll take Daniels for 2 million over Posey for 6m any day. I'm also glad we didn't end up sinking more money into last season which was turned out to be a lost cause with KG not getting his knee cleaned ahead of time. (To bad we wasted money on Moore and Marbury though).

New Orleans is having major problems right now with no production from the wing. Of course, it is only 2 games in. But Danny's decision to retain flexibility (which made signing Wallace and Daniels financially feasible) seems like the right move.

I agree it was the most logical move at the time.  More so for the albatross that his contract will become in the next couple of years.

Garnett getting hurt was the reason the C's didn't repeat so I don't agree that his signing/no signing played a part either way.

They were a playoff team in the west, which means you have a pretty good team.

I agree they're not title contenders, but they'd be the four or five seed in the east. That's not a garbage team by any means.

True.  I'm not ruling that out.  But the C's bench sucked last year and it hurt their chances to win it all.  I don't like that on a team that has a narrow window of opportunity to win it all.
