Though I don't agree with the KG part, (he looks much better than Simmons says) I generally liked the article.  I thought he talked about a lot of interesting story lines to this season.

I'm ready for it to start!

Yeah, the funny thing is that the best part of Simmons' writing is the non-Celtics stuff.  I think he's much too "objective" (i.e., negative) for me to enjoy when he talks about the Celts.

Yeah, he tries too hard not to seem biased.

Very true Roy.  I guess Simmons chose to go the Danny and Doc bashing route a few years ago, and despite their eventual success, Simmons doesn't want to give them their due.  I don't believe he every truly has either.  It's kind of sad, Simmons used to add an interesting voice to the media that covered the celtics, but it seems he has too much pride to admit he misjudged the situation.

...I forgot to add, that being said, I still find Simmons basketball writing to be one of the funnest reads on the internet.

Yeah ... you nailed it for me ... I really don't remember much of anything he's written about the C's that I enjoyed ... always turns me off with his obvious straining for objectivity, and let's be honest, Celtics fans, (me especially), don't want objectivity. His other stuff I quite often find enjoyable, however, when he sticks to the subject.

I also think he needs to get off Kevin Durant's lap - so to speak - at least a little.  He has some really wild expectations for Durant.  Don't get me wrong, I think he'll be good, but I see Kevin Durant as a potential Carmelo Anthony kinda guy, not the next MJ or even LBJ (read any of the recent articles about how poor in terms of +/- Kevin Durant has been in his first two years of play).

His +/- sucks because his team sucks.  If you play the majority of the minutes on a terrible team, your +/- is going to look bad - no matter how good you are.

Not true.  In 2006-07 the Timberwolves were one of the worst teams in the league.  But Kevin Garnett still tied Tim Duncan for the highest on-court off-court +/- in the league.  If you are a superstar, difference-making player on the MVP level like Simmons seems to expect Durant to be, it is likely to eventually show up in those +/- numbers somewhere.  If Durant keeps throwing up -8.4 on-court/off-court +/- numbers like he did last year it won't matter how many points he scores he won't sniff the MVP.

Love Simmons, but his lack of any respect for Doc, Danny, and KG's knee is a real turn off.

And someone said this in another thread, but he thinks the Spurs are going to pull their stuff together around Duncan and the last hope of a title...when the Celtics have the better big 4 and the same reasons to win a title.

Someone should tell him that you are allowed to look like a homer when you have one of the best teams in the league.

What do you guys think?

I think Simmons can't admit that he was wrong on KG's knee.  Sticking with this "65 - 70% efficiency" argument seems silly to me, when we're clearly seeing that KG is much more healthy than that.  I'd say he's at at least 90% right now.

I agree. He's looked quite good out there.

I agree.  But notice how he went with the 14/7 and "good defense" bit.  The thing is that KG might be 100% and he might only put up those numbers because of the depth on this team.  So Simmons covers his butt and makes himself look right.

Yup, and he is still throwing his staple theory out there.

Superfan #1 said before the ECF last year that Cleveland was the 2nd coming of the 90-91 Bulls and would win in 5.

I enjoy Simmons' writing and I think he's the most entertaining columnist out there by far, plus he actually likes and writes about basketball which is unusual by itself.  Starting with the Ray Allen trade, he's switched from being unrealistically optimistic about the C's to unrealistically pessimistic.  The team's fortunes have gone in the exact opposite direction.  I'm content with that keeping up.
