He is currently 4th in Celtics history for total triple doubles.
I think we'll see RR pass PP this year.
NOTE: Triple doubles started being recorded in '79, and i'm sure that Russell, Hondo, Cowens and Cousy had quite a few.

Bird- 69 (Larry had back to back triple doubles 7 times, three in a row on one occation)

Walker- 13 (Toine's best was one that was 19pts 10ast 30reb)

Pierce- 6

Rondo- 5

Parish, DJ, Gamble, Gomes- 1 (DJ's was in the playoffs)

I also think that Marquis is capable of putting one up, he's come close before.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Bob Cousy's career high/ Celtic high for assists in a game is 28, the total list looks like this:

Cousy- 28
Tiny- 23
Douglas- 22
Douglas- 21
Cousy - 21
Tiny- 19
Cousy- 19
Cousy- 19
Rondo- 19

I don't know if Rondo will get 28 this year but i think he'll defenitly get over 19 at some point.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Most Steals in a game.

Bird- 9
Pierce- 9
Bird- 8
Bird- 8

Rondo's high is 7.

I don't foresee Rondo approaching any of those records, honestly.  A 20 assist game wouldn't shock me -- he's knocked on the door before -- but 28 seems out of reach (especially since he's been asked to look for his own shot a little more this year).

As for triple-doubles, I think Rondo might approach Antoine some day, but he's not getting by Larry.  I honestly believe that Larry could have put up a triple double any night he wanted to.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The steals record seems totally reasonable. He is as nifty as they come, and as you stated, it's not like he hasn't come close.

I remember I always used to say that Larry once had a quintuplet double- I was a kid and I was probably trying to make a point. I always knew in the back of my head that wasn't true, but seeing as the most steals he has ever had is nine, I guess that is impossible :0)

Man, and this has been said a lot of times here (and I am sure there are even more 'haters'), but I sure miss Toine  :)

He may not approach Larry or Couz in the above mentioned categories, but he will never be passed for most times to use the fake behind the back pass in a single game.  His record has to be like 20.   ;)

Didn't Larry once say he could have a triple double every night if he wanted but it wouldn't necessarily help the team win?

Also:

Cousy never actually avg'd 10 ast's per game, his best season was 9.5 (same thing we say) but Rondo could technically be the first celtic to avg double digits in assists.
NOTE: During part of Cousy's career bounce passes didn't count as assists therefore noone will ever ACTUALLY pass him, but numerically...
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Celtics Assists Per Game:

Bob Cousy (59-60) 9.5
Bob Cousy (55-56) 8.9
Sherman Douglas (93-94) 8.8
Bob Cousy (58-59) 8.6
Tiny Archibald (79-80) 8.4
Rajon Rondo (08-09) 8.2

Cousy is in there about 200 more times but thats about where Rondo stands.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Total Assists in a Season

Cousy (59-60) 715
Douglas (93-94) 683
Archibald (79-80) 671
Rondo (08-09) 659
Cousy (55-56) 642

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Right now Rondo is tied with Bird for Career Steals per game at 1.7

Could he get Total steals / total assists?

It all depends on how long he plays, really. I think if he's here most or all of his career he'll probably crack the top 5 in both categories. Passing Bird for steals and Cous for assists would be hard to accomplish, but possible. He'll have to average like over 7 assists for the next 12 years.

It's a shame that Cousy gets so little meantion as an all-time great. People don't talk about him enough.. It was painfully hard to get assists back in the day.

Cous was the man, he led the league in total assists and APG for 8 straight seasons, all the while scoring high teens low 20's.

very very true cousy was the point guard that all others followed which is why hondo should not have been #3 in all time celtic greats (nothing against john who should have been #4)

Rondo could honestly have about 20 triple doubles by now. There have been so many games where the Celtics were up by a ton and rested their starters in the 4th, and Rondo was either an assist or rebound away from getting the triple double.

The only problem with that argument, is you could say the same about Jason Kidd / Magic / Bird / Oscar.

I mean, Jason Kidd could have broken Scott Skiles single game assist record (he had about 17 in the first half against the Suns) and then just didn't play the last 14 minutes.

I hope he breaks Russell's record of most rings  :)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Cousy scored 1000+ points every season of his career, except that silly season in Cincinnati.
