KG and Ray did it before they got here.

It won't be rest that'll get these guys to become Mr Q4. They're both clearly beyond their primes, ~ 2yrs, and instead, need to be fresh to be star-level contributors in the end.

Lebron is simply the better player

I see him as one notch above Paul's 2002 abilities.

Next, even if his one-on-one coverage is a bit weaker, the point is that few small forwards will be able to cover him without him drawing 'em out, to create a lane for someone else.

I'd rather have him pull a pf or c away from the basket than a sf. You lose his biggest advantage. Also note that Daniels scores as much as Rasheed if not more.

That KG run, back in '04, isn't happening again. It's not an issue of rest, with him. He's in that first leg down, in his all star career.

With Pierce, it's clearly an issue of the wear 'n tear; he can still do his Q4 dynamics but can't play the whole game with that intensity anymore.

That was 7 years ago.  You think Pierce is better now?

Radical idea: sometime in the next few weeks, we frame KG for a crime he didn't commit.  Nothing major, just maybe some armed robbery or light treason.  KG goes to prison for the first few months of the season.  He'll spend his time lifting weights, resting his knee, and getting more and more angry about the travesty of justice inflicted upon him.  In the meantime, we'll also get about 30 million in salary cap/luxury tax relief, which we of course use to coax Antoine out of retirement.

Around the All-Star Break or so, evidence is suddenly "discovered" that completely exonerates KG, leading to his immediate release and reinstatement to the NBA.  He comes back with a fury never before seen in his career, and with his fresh legs the Celtics look nearly unstoppable.

Then, after the post-break Western swing, KG is approached in the parking lot by a mysterious masked man who sounds a lot like Mike Gorman trying to talk like Batman.  The man tells him he was framed by a major conspiracy, and will give him the identity of one of those responsible for each playoff game we win.  Coincidentally, each of these individuals will be a player or coach on our series opponent.

An enraged KG crushes all opposition and the Celtics tear through the playoffs, but KG finds no answers from the members of the so-called conspiracy. He suspects a kingpin is out there somewhere, but every lead becomes another dead end.  Still, each failure redoubles his drive to win the next game and hopefully be given the piece that will finally solve the twisted puzzle.  Until, after sweeping the Finals, KG is preparing to receive the Finals MVP trophy in the ultimate redemption, and making plans to spend his offseason hunting down the man who framed him.  Suddenly, a shadowy figure walks quickly by him, only pausing to whisper one word - "Stern..."  One superhuman headbutt later, we've got a new commish, the longest standing O in team history, and the NBA is moving toward a new brighter tomorrow.

Thoughts?

I believe that given our roster, it's a waste to use up all of Paul Pierce during the first two quarters.

If we start 'Sheed, at the 3, and then make Pierce, his backup, then we get maximum efficacy. Here's why...

During the first two quarters, 'Sheed will be the *insider* but mostly mid-range shooter for the frontline, allowing Perks and KG to handle more of the rebounding activities beneath the boards while not losing out on what Pierce did as a 3 but without a full time slasher to the rim.

The key here is to bring in Pierce for 4-6 mins, each quarter, till the final one, adding variety to the game but without the sort of bang up game which takes its toll, after the first two quarters of jaw boning/head butting. When the fourth begins, that's when Pierce will play the entire 12 mins w/o break. All and all, save the best for last. Really, the best starting five is the best when Pierce is having his Mr Q4 moments and to save all that charge for the end, while using normal substitutions for the other players, will make this squad virtually unbeatable by even the best teams out there.

the problem with that is it usually takes Pierce the first 3 quarters to warm up!

The beauty of the plan is its simplicity.  Also, it's about as likely as the idea in the OP.
