Ok folks, the theme of this thread is wrong. Ray's had spurs removed from his ankles, a.k.a the focal point of strength for a jumper shooter. In other words, his game was severely hampered afterward for much of the season. This is a critical biomechanical difference in injury type.
On the other knee (pardon intended), KG had a spur pressing against a ligament in the knee itself. Once the spur is arthroscopically cleaned out (which minimizes internal scar tissue formation since nothing is actually *cut*), the ligament returns to it natural state, strength is restored, and the player can resume his game. This doesn't really take that long to recover from but like all surgeries, it's better to play conservative for a while.
