I have no problem backing Nick on this 150%.  Gilbert is one player in the NBA I cannot stand.

First of all, the team he's blaming for letting him play too soon is the same team that he told he would opt out of his contract and leave if they didnt let him play in the first place.

But I started hating Gilbert long before this.  The guy is a complete moron.  All the fans around the NBA ohhh and ahhh and laugh at what this guy says, but all he does is make himself and his team look completely stupid.  In case you dont believe me, I'll let you in on a few examples.  Gilbert guaranteeing victory against us on opening night of the 2007-2008 season.  We blow them out by over 20 points.  Gilbert guarantees 50 points against both the Suns and the Portland Trailblazers.  Not only does Gilbert not get 50, but he shoots his team out of both games.  Then theres also the 10 dollar bets with fans, which he would always seem to lose.  I cant imagine what it's like being a Wizards fan and having to put up with this guy.  I'm from DC and it's funny talking to Wizards fans who know basketball and ones who dont.  The ones who dont really know a lot about basketball love the guy because he hit's these buzzer beaters.  The ones who love basketball and know the game, hate Gilbert because he shoots a horrible percentage, has no commitment on the defensive end, and wishes the team would have just let him go.

And on top of all that, the guy has 3 knee surgeries in a 2 year span, hasnt proved at all that his knee will ever fully recover, so what does he do?  He opts out of his contract and asks for a raise!  And he does it in an offseason where the team already has to resign Jamison, putting them in a horrible position.  He just doesnt seem like a team first guy, I dont care how much he talks about winning.  If you notice the guy is always talking about proving hes a top 5 talent and making the all nba team.  One thing he never talks about is playing more defense, or getting his team out of the first round.....or past the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Im sorry this turned into a book and a huge rant, Gilbert is just one of those players in the NBA that I cannot stand.  I know his interactions with fans is probably good for the sport, however like some people said earlier, it's always funny and cool, as long as hes not playing for my team.

I know you can say I'm bias and this is definetly a glass half empty look at Gilber to say the least. But the points I made are not untrue and not overly exaggerated.  You can almost say the guy is a glorified Antoine....ok that may be taking it too far :)

/end of rant
Greg

Wow.  Is Arenas serious? ::)

LOL did Arenas get out of his wheel chair from his 100 previous knee surgeries to say this? He'll play about 14 games again this season then blow the SAME knee out. Stick a fork in him.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

Good thread nick

Arenas is a weirdo.

He also sleeps on the couch every night no matter what cause he doesn't like women touching him, which doesn't make sense

Yea. Sorry, but this makes Agent Zero look dumb. Sure, you don't give a recovering alcoholic a shot of tequila. But you don't worry about a BASKETBALL HIGHLY PAID PROFESSIONAL making a rash decision about coming back. NBA is his life, but not some sort of psycho medical addiction. He could have continued to sit and rehab and their Big 3 would be back to the same. I am glad that KG sat this past playoffs b/c I feel the same thing could have happened to him and we'd be KGless this season.
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • The Truth
Gilbert is amazing, and he is one of the best players and scorers in the game, I mean he got 78/100 threes with one hand.
Everything he says should not be taken to heart or taken word for word you know...That is simply the way he said I was wrong but it's their fault too, just like it really is

Arenas is kinda wacky but there is some truth in what he said.

I mean, our team knew enough to hold back KG.  Perhaps if KG had been in the same situation with different management, he would have tried to play in the playoffs and it would have set him back in terms of rehabilitation.

I don't think it's possible to really judge the fairness of Arenas' statements without having an inside perspective on the situation.  However, from what I've heard there are people who do have that kind of inside knowledge and they think Arenas really only has himself to blame in this situation.
The Celtics didn't hold KG back, he held himself back.  Ainge said several times that if KG could tolerate the pain he would come back and play.

I agree that Gilbert is a tool but also that he is kind of lovable.  He doesn't really seem to mean any harm but he is definitely very selfish and self absorbed.  I realize that they have very different body types and personalities, but Gilbert's game reminds me of Allen Iverson's.  Both are selfish egocentric volume scorers.  Both are combo guards who don't play much defense.  Lets see if Arenas figures out how to be a winner.  AI certainly never did.
