guy like bell would make house, allen and giddens expendable
i think we still need daniels as backup sf is a weak spot
I'm pretty sure if the bobcats were shopping him then could do better than a good vet end of bench guy with expiring $ and a sg who can't hit outside shots has health issues and is a turnover waiting to happen

I would definitely do this trade.  I for one hope Daniels comes in a straight up signing for the LLE and not in a S+T, so that we can package Brian Scalabrine and The Tony Allen Expiring Contract for a player like Bell.  I hadn't thought of Bell, but he would fit perfect.  The other names I had thought of in the 5-6 mil range, for teams who might not end up in the playoff picture, are Posey and Nocioni.  Charlotte is already out of the playoff picture before the season starts, so they might as well unload Bell now.  They might be able to get more talent than just Scalabrine, but what's the difference if they're going for expiring deals, nobody they get is going to make much difference this year anyway.  Them signing AI doesn't even make sense, now that I think about it, since they're not going to compete this year, or next year, or the year after that.

I forgot what my point was, but I think the point of my comments comes down to, I'm glad I'm a fan of the Celtics and not one of these random permanent-lottery franchises.

Any way we can do a trade with CHA to get Daniels & Bell? We could offer Walker, TA, Giddens, Scal, some picks (pref 2nd round)?  :D

Baby, TA and Giddens for a resigned Ray Felton.

I don't see Charlotte doing a trade like this since Bell is already an expiring contract and the biggest values Scal and Tony bring at this point is their expiring contracts not so much their play on the floor.  So Charlotte wouldn't save much money in this deal.

To get a real solid bench player for Scal and Tony I think we are going to have to take on contract that has at least 2 more years on it.   A real money saving move for a team not what this deal would be for Charlotte.

But you're being a bit dishonest in your evaluation for Charlotte.  If Tony Allen were capable of defending the bigger guards in the league we wouldn't be trying to trade for someone like Raja Bell.  The truth is that Tony Allen isn't really capable of sustained minutes on the floor in an NBA game.

I always find it amusing when people envision trades with tony they usually give him "good defender", "experience" and "great athleticism"...
When they have to envision him being on the celtics' roster these qualities turn to "commits stupid fouls in crunch time", "frequently turns the ball over" and "injury prone, which is probably a good thing..."

That is so true. LOL

I'm with you - Charlotte probaly won't do the deal. Just for discussion:

How much is Bell?
How much are our trade options?
What's the rule on trades and salaries (125% + $100k?)
How much is a draft pick worth?

I'd like to have Bell for his defense. Need a real good stopper for Kobe & LeBron.

How much is Bell?

Bell makes $5.25 million this season

How much are our trade options?

We don't have any trade exceptions large enough to fit Bell, meaning we'd have to trade players for him.

The guys most often discussed are:

Tony:    $2,500,000
Scal:    $3,413,793
Giddens: $1,028,880
Walker:  $736,420$

Essentially, that's the rule, especially when both teams are over the cap.

How much is a draft pick worth?

Future draft picks have no value in trade.

Thanks - TP given

So, we have to offer $4.12M (5.25 - 100k / 125%) minimum. That saves CHA just over $1M. TA & Scal have expiring contracts, what about Walker & Giddens?

Can CHA do a sign & trade with Daniels? Daniels & Bell would be even better, what would it take for this, granted we wouldn't know Daniels exact salary?

Maybe too much wishful thinking but believe we need to make another move to put us over the top. We can contend now but we need to do all we can for this 2 year run.
