Phil Jackson over Red?  Whateva

Pat Summit about 30 spots ahead of Geno? idk

Joe Gibbs (heck. anyone) ahead of Belichek?

Bill Parcells hasn't taken a team to the 2nd round of the playoffs in any capacity in 15 years

Joe Torre? Yeah, he really worked miracles with that $200 million payroll that was about $80 million more than the next closest team, and like $110 million more than the teams that beat him

Greg Popovich should probably be #1 on luckiest coaches. I think without Duncan we would never have known who he was.

This is just me, but even though it says "coaches" I think you should be given more credit or less if you were also GM, depending on success. Like Red goes higher and Pitino goes lower. DA it doesn't affect cause he didn't do both, but Parcells it does.

This is isn't that bad.  I do like that they gave Pat Summit a lot of credit.  I guess asking for Van Chancellor to be on the list would have been expecting too much.

Scotty Bowman needs to be higher. He should be above Don Shula and Phil Jackson (who should be behind Red).

Bill Wlash needs to be much higher.  He should be the next NFL coach behind Paul Brown (maybe even ahead of him).

Except for the fact that he's the general manager of that team and put those squads together.

  • Yup
I guess there needs to be some distinction between most successful coaches and best coaches.  Hell, the best coach may be some guy who coaches Little League in East Fartsville, Idaho.

I think what we're seeing here is a list of the Most Successful of the Most Famous coaches.

I always look at the best coaches as guys who get the most out of the players.  Herb Brooks and the `80 US Olympic Hockey Team for instance.

But I guess that gives unfair bias against the Red's and Phil Jackson's and Joe Torre's of the world who were "cursed" by being burdened with loads of talent.
Yup

Yeah that was really genious drafting Duncan with the #1 pick. Not many GMs would have had the courage to pull that one off.
