Thank for your support, Vote Portland!!

Well, you are now that you jettisoned that blowhard of a former GM. ;)

I heard he was dead weight anyways and smelled faintly of sulfur and brimstone. Of course, most lawyers smell faintly of sulfur and brimstone.

Faintly?  Hmm...  most people say I "reak" of it.  It must be Edgar's fruity essence (;)) wearing off on me.

Seattle over Orlando: I hated to do it to my Pacific brethran, but I like Tim Duncan against Dwight Howard. That's not to say Howard isn't the more dominant player now, because he is, but I don't think Howard can stop Duncan on the same level Duncan stops Howard, and if Howard isn't all world this team kind of falls apart a little for me.

Portland over Houston: I don't think any three players on Portland are better than Houston's top three. That said, I don't think those three guys can win 7 games when Portland can just rotate the 2003 All-star team in and out.
Poor Orlando gets no respect. Now their getting beaten in the West when they don't even play there

I dunno what you're talking about, it says Buffalo there. (now.)

I'd say a go-to scorer combined with solidarity in other areas.

That only goes so far when the great defensive team limits / contains / shuts down the go-to scorer.

??? The Lakers are champs with exactly what I described. What were Orlando's defensive numbers last season and in the playoffs?

See nick's post above.  LA wasn't so shabby when it came to rebounding / defense themselves.

You do realize that the Magic had the 3rd highest rebounding differential in the league last year right?

http://www.nba.com/statistics/sortable_team_statistics/sortable2.html?cnf=1&prd=1#top

Or that the Magic had the 4th best defensive efficiency during the playoffs last year, right?

Magic were #1 in points against.

Interesting... looks like the better defense lost. Not enough offense I guess.

Tp to nick for the sources.

How about Jamison over K-Mart? Antawn put up 26.5ppg versus Denver last year. K-Mart averaged
8.5ppg.

Plus for those talking about Howard versus Duncan, last year, Dwight put up 19ppg, 13.5 rpg versus the Spurs, while Duncan put up 18.5ppg, 9.5rpg. I'd say its a wash to leaning slightly in my favour.

You're talking about stats and matchups, and you voted Houston over Edgar?  ;) Edgar's guys literally won something like 8 out of 9 matchups over Houston when you look at actual stats.

Orlando over Philly
Baron Davis is the one position for Philly I would call an outright win. Beyond that, its either a lose or a wash. Orlando on the other hand has wins in the front court both positions on either depth or starting talent, and wings on the wings from their starters. Orlando is a terrible matchup for Philly here, because without Carmelo, they look like they'd be kind of lost. Carmelo should still score points against Lebron, but LeBron is the best player in the NBA for a reason.

Richardsons averages drop to 12ppg and 13ppg against Brewer and Parker respectively.  The last game Richardson played against Brewer he had 4pts on 2-11 shooting.  Where else is this teams production going to come from?

So when two very good defensive teams and rebounding teams play each other, if the team that's slightly better defensively and rebounding seasonal stats loses that makes the team that won BAD at rebounding and defense?

Seems to me that it proves they were better at it and had enough offense to win. Toronto has an amazing defensive and rebounding team and have yet to play a team that is good enough defensively to compete and at the same time has an offensive player that can overcome the Toronto defense enough to push them to victory.
