Now that the rumours have been slowing down, maybe it's time to look at our current roster.
Assuming that Baby, Pruitt and Hudson will get a contract, there's only one spot left. Usually, Danny likes to keep this flexibility until the trade deadline, so if we sign a back-up SF the only way we could get someone else is a) by not signing Pruitt or Hudson (Baby's only a question of how much money will it take to match another offer), or b) via sign-and-trade.

Rondo
Ray
Paul
KG
Perk

Pruitt (team option)
House
Scal
Big Baby (RFA)
Sheed

Hudson (unsigned draft pick)
T.Allen
J.R. Giddens
Bill Walker

  • Rondo = Good
I doubt Hudson gets a contract at this point.

I'd say it's more likely one of the other guys from the summer league roster gets invited to training camp and makes the roster.

Or maybe none of them do, and we have 2 open spots.

If this is the roster we go into camp with I won't be too happy, but it means we did resign baby which makes me less upset. Still if we only sign one free agent I think Danny hasn't done his job this offseason.

A title team shouldn't carry more than 3 projects on a 15 man roster. Between Hudson, Pruitt, Giddens, Walker; we should only keep 3.

Heck, Tony could also be thrown into the project pile, considering all his "untapped potential". Seriously his only value is wing insurance and trade fodder later on, when some team has a fire-sale.

To expand: Tony and Scal are insurance (11th, 12th men). If Baby is kept, we still need 1-2 solid rotation players.

yep. let's face it, Hudson's not making the team. and realistically one of TA, Giddens and Walker has to go, hopefully via trade.

I actually think Danny will keep Hudson. Danny's a risk taker. He would certainly enjoy turning a #58 pick into an NBA rotation player.

Exactly. We have five non-contributors right now. That number MUST be thinned.

I know it's predictable, but I agree.  We need to consolidate some of the dregs into legitimate players.

exactly.  every team should be developing some talent but the C's have too much deadwood at the moment.  C's need to upgrade from TA and Veal.  Pruitt has to go if he can't prove he deserves the backup PG spot in camp this year-->a player has to crack a rotation by their 3rd year or they're wasting a roster spot.  House is only of value when his shot falls so looking for an upgrade over him isn't unreasonable either.
Moving these 4 players for 1 very good or 2 good players would be ideal.

Keeping Walker, Giddens and even Hudson for development as long as they're at the end of the roster (D-league or not dressed for the game).

Scal's not really a non-contributor anymore. He's a solid 5th big and 11th or 12th man. The problem is that none of our other projects are big men too - I'm fine using our 13th to 15th man spots on projects, but I really wish one of them was a big man.

I would like to see us clear Tony Allen out of here soon, but I think Danny will hold onto that expiring deal. That's why I'd like for us to make a deal sooner rather than later. TA should be packaged either with Scal and Walker or Giddens in a pure salary dump, or with Big Baby in a sign and trade, to clear out a roster spot.
Go Celtics.

Cut or trade two from this group and you've got plenty of room for acquisitions.  I think Hudson is out cos of the broken finger.  Giddens or Walker may be going to the D. League again.

Plenty of room for acquisitions with not many financial resources to fill them with worthwhile players.
