Obviously, BBD is my 1st pick.
With Marion, Bass, Birdman, Grant Hill, McDyess, Zaza, and Varejao being signed, this has left the Celtics with a good chance for the Celtics to resign BBD.

These are my other considerations, but not in any specific order:
Sign for LLE
Matt Barnes
Drew Gooden
Flip Murray
Chris Wilcox
Keith Bogans
Linus Kleiza
Joe Smith
Jamario Moon

This is a reach:

Andre Miller
Allen Iverson
Ramon Sessions
David Lee

You know we've used the MLE already right? You only get one. All the names are interesting but we're limited to the LLE. I wish Moon wasn't a restricted free agent - I think he would be perfect to back up at the wing. I'd like Kleiza too but I think he'll cost more than the LLE. Bogans seems fairly popular around here - I'm not sold, but maybe I need to look a little closer.

Unless we can get Moon (and would it really hurt to just make him a 2 year LLE offer? If he takes it, then the worst that happens is Miami matches), I think our best bet for getting a backup wing is in a trade. Maybe we wait on that though. IF we lock up Big Baby, maybe we can move forward with Scal and Walker as the primary small forward backups and House and Tony Allen as the primary guard backups. I don't like that setup much (I'm fine with Scal as a backup power forward, I'm concerned about him backing up at small forward) but at least we'd have a very strong frontcourt off the bench.
Go Celtics.

I thought since the C's are already gonna pay the luxury tax, that they could sign players for around 5 million per year. If I'm wrong, then I wrong, sorry bout that.

You have Josh Smith, Klieza and Flip at the LLE?

I think you meant Josh Childress, and if he was offerred the LLE, the Hawks would just match. I believe Klieza, before the Hedo signing, was getting a decent deal from TO, and still get something in the 3 mill range.

I do like Wilcox though. i personally think it's a stretch but for some reason nobody's finding interest.

---

And no, we have already used the MLE. We can only sign people to the LLE, the Vet minimum or get people via trade or S+T.

No, they can only sign one player for the "MLE".  It's an approximately $5.8 million exception that can be used to sign one player, or multiple players.  Once the $5.8 million runs out, though, it's gone.

The Celtics also have the "LLE" ($1.99 million) and the "minimum" (ranging from about $450k to $1.3 million, depending upon service time).

We can re-sign our own free agents with various other exceptions.

Roy, just so I know, did we lose any Bird rights for Powe by failing to make a qualifying offer? I know the failure to offer the QO means he's unrestricted, but do we only have the minimum and biannual exceptions available to sign Powe, or could we still sign him to any amount with Bird rights? I don't think he'll get more than $1.99 mil, but I'm just curious as to whether we could go above the minimum without using the LLE.

I also realize that Powe is not coming back, but I'm retaining irrational hope that he finds his way back to Boston this year.
Go Celtics.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.
(I mentioned Joe Smith.)

We'd have his Bird rights.  The same thing happened with Tony Allen:  we declined his qualifying offer, and then signed him to a contract with our Bird rights.

Flip Murray could actually be a nice option off the bench - instant offense, can handle the ball - d seems ok

Where's Von Wafer?

Where's Marquis Daniels?  This guy was a starting caliber sg/sg with Dallas.  Then he got that big contract, had some injuries and disappeared.  But the talent is there, plus he can defend-- or at least he could.

I think we're looking at LLE players. Marquis would be decent (I liked him as a utility guy in Dallas), and for some reason I feel like Daniels might get paid a little more.

Marquis might be worth a bit more than the LLE, but in this summer's economy, you never know.  A player like him might only get the LLE.  Or at least he might not get many offers above that, and might take a bit less money to play on a contender for a year or two and hope for a bigger pay day after participating in playoff wins.

How about Rodney Carney for the LLE? He can get some exposure and cash in next year.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about Carney, Daniels, Bogans yet.

Carney loves to jack up the 3's. The Celtics already have enough of these guys - perimeter players.
McDaniels and Carney have had injurys and missed games.

I think there are better players available now than these two guys.
