I'm really looking forward to our mid-season and end-of-season look backs at our teams.... i think some folks are gonna be surprised where their teams end up (and players perform).

I agree.  Even then, those won't be perfect, though.  They'll show three things:  injuries, how rookies are doing, and players who have made "the leap".

What they can't do is show how players are fitting into their role, etc.  That's why this game is always going to be very subjective.

It also can show which players over- and under-performed relative to people's expectations.... not just players who make "the leap".

(I'm using my team b/c i don't feel like looking up another example).

For example, as we were talkin about last year's draft in the lead up to this one people still said Brad Miller was still taken too early but was a good fit next to Duncan on last year's Fake Magics. this was after seeing him perform in the playoffs at still a high level.

He was a starter on our team that exceeded expectations and i think woulda moved us up a few notches. (and may have even led to the CrotorNats reaching for him this year  ;D)

this will happen to some team this year too.....

But your point is exactly right:

CelticsBlog Draft ... where subjectivity happens  ;D

IIRC, me and WalkerWiggle both volunteered to help with those look-backs. Is NickA the one who's gonna run this through a sim/video game?

Still the trading period, press conferences and the playoffs to go in the CelticsBlog draft. So we don't want to jump the gun, but we will see too how this all plays out in reality ;)

I got the 2k10 simulation when the game comes out this fall... I'll put it through and release results and such in some appropriately dramatic fashion. By division, by month in the season, I don't know yet.

haha might not be a bad idea... I'll give you the results, maybe you post about the west, I post about the east in the interest of objectivity?

The Houston Rockets select: Bobby Jackson.

Sorry for our delay, conversations with Jackson and his agent were holding this pick up. We wanted to make sure this was the right match, since in all likelihood Bobby will be ending his career with Houston.

And after reviewing his post-all-star break averages from last season, 9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, we felt confident in partly guaranteeing a second year as enticement.

i've seriously lost count of the amount of times you've grabbed the next guy off my wish list.  i'd congradulate you if it wasn't so annoying, haha.

The Memphis Grizzlies are quite content with their team, but are willing to listen to offers for anyone but Tony Parker.

By the Magics... maybe we can include him in the deal we've been discussing BigAlTheFuture  :)

the flamingos are up in the roster eval thread, please tell us what you think.

Also:

It is now open season on the guys you;ve been asking for, teams who have win now aspirations, PM me with offers

Please keep in mind that I do not want any picks this draft. trades that are meh role players and more picks in the remaining rounds aren't going to get much interest.

What we are looking for is young guys with promise who don't fit your team's win now mentality. Also, we are  interested in stocking up on future fictional 1st round draft picks for our write up, but in an effort not to devalue them for said write up, and keep the spirit of the game in tact we won't be taking any crazy offers.

Example: we will not take a trade of say....said fictional 1st round draft pick for earl watson. that would never happen in real life, and is against the spirit (we feel) of the game. however, if you want, say micheal beasly and want to offer us a 1st round pick as part of the package, we feel that is more in keeping with the fun of the game.

This is a great pick at this point in the draft. I don't think Collison has gotten his due. Has lead his team to two Final Fours and has been the starter since his sophomore year. While neither Russell Westbrook nor Jrue Holiday ever threatened to take his job.

They will both be better PGs in the NBA than Collison, though.
