From The Arizona Republic :

Quote
[Matt] Barnes' agent, Aaron Goodwin, told him that Dallas, Cleveland, Orlando and the Lakers (pre-[Ron] Artest) were the first teams showing interest in him but nothing about the Suns.

I think Danny should try to recruit him, even if we don't know about Hill's decision yet.

Barnes says he wants to "win" :

Quote
Barnes averaged career highs in scoring (10.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg) with 42.3 percent shooting, the same accuracy he had in the 2007-08 season. He shot 36.7 percent in 37 games as a reserve.

"I want to win," said Barnes, who never imagined joining Phoenix and missing the playoffs. "Look at Trevor Ariza. At the beginning of the season, nobody was talking about him and by the end of the season, he became the No. 1 free agent."

Sounds like he wants to win so he can have a big payday on his next contract, not so he can have a ring. Yellow flag right there for me.

And what kind of money is Barnes looking for again and over how many years?  This will make a difference.

Notice all the teams he listed are warm weather cities, outside of CLEV.  8)

I don't think matt has backed off on his pronouncement from last year that it would take a large amount of extra cash to make him move to a cold weather spot one bit.

I'm not willing to grossly over pay matt barnes to be our back up wing...not yet.

Yeah.... ugg.... hmm. Well, Posey kind of came to Boston with a similar plan. Play on a contender and boost his pay.

Outside of Hill and Barnes we enter slow dudes who can shoot, or defenders who can't territory: Herrmann, Szczerbiak, Ross, Jones, Bowen (if bought out).

Maybe Carney or Udoka would work.

Why he isn't in Ainge list, he'll be the best fit if we can't get Hill

It really sounds like fans like Barnes more the GMS.

No one offers him mid level money.

Can you blame him?  He's not like Grant Hill or these other stars that made millions a year.  He's been a journeyman so I would expect that he's trying to make as much as he can.  Posey did the same thing.

Link to story about him not going back to the Suns...

Its a shame the celts are not pursuing him, because I always liked his game. I can see him being a Posey-esque player. 6'7", can play/guard 2 and 3 (a lil four if necessary) an rebounds (5.5 per game last year). He would have been a nice addition to the team
