He is below average on defense. He is a below average rebounder. His offensive game is severely limited. He has a mediocre jump shot if he's left wide open. He doesn't really bring much as far as "intangibles". Not that savvy of a player.
He can bang with the big boys, as opposed to KG and Sheed. He is a far better offensive rebounder than Wallace. His offensive game is excellent for a second year bench big. He is [dang] clutch. He hustles for loose balls and brings high energy. He showed fantastic improvement.
He can't bang with the big boys as well as Sheed. For all we talked about Perk holding Howard in check, Sheed has been doing that consistently for Howard's entire career. Plus, Wallace has the height and wingspan to bother the taller 4s like Gasol and Lewis that have caused Davis so much trouble. Davis is also not a better rebounder than Sheed on either end (Powe is the best rebounder of the 3). However, I agree his offensive game is above average for a second year bench big, he did show improvement and he brings energy and enthusiasm and effort. Now that it's apparent the money isn't there, he's actually looking like a good 4th big option. I think I've been holding out hope that we'd bring in a 3/4 Posey/Nocioni type who would take some minutes at the 4 in small lineups, which would obviate the need for Davis (since Scal could play the 5th big role). But since that option doesn't seem to be out there, Scalabrine isn't an ideal 4th big, and Davis isn't looking at a fat contract offer, I'm becoming more convinced we keep Davis relatively cheap, at least for another year at the qualifying offer.
By the way, how much is the QO for Davis?
